Champion Selection Guide
Champions organized by archetype — Rushdown, Zoner, Grappler, Bruiser, Mixup — to help you build the right team
Champion Selection Basics
In 2XKO, you choose two champions — a Point Fighter and an Assist Fighter. Team synergy matters greatly, and each champion has an "archetype" that defines their combat style.
As of May 2026, the roster contains 13 champions, with more planned each season.
Archetype Overview
All-Rounder
Champions with balanced stats that can adapt to various situations.
Champions: Darius
Notes: No critical weaknesses, capable against any opponent. Ideal for learning fundamental FGC concepts like pokes, punishes, and combos.
Bruiser
Heavy close-range fighters that apply extreme pressure in melee range.
Champions: Braum, Illaoi
Notes: Long-range normals, strong high/low and side-switch mix-ups. Limited mobility compensated by heavy pressure when in range.
Braum: High defensive capability. Excellent with guard counters and assist synergy. Functions as a team tank.
Illaoi: Unique tentacle-based playstyle. Effective with just normals and specials — the reach alone dominates without needing advanced tech.
Grappler
Heavy fighters whose core game revolves around command grabs.
Champions: Blitzcrank
Notes: Strong command throws to break guard, decent normal range, but limited mobility and defensive options. Core game is forcing the opponent to block then landing a command grab.
Blitzcrank: Perfect for players who prefer not pressing many buttons. The game plan is clear: land Rocket Grab, convert to combo.
Rushdown
Highly mobile characters that apply constant, unrelenting pressure.
Champions: Ahri, Akali (added Season 2), Vi
Notes: Use speed to steal opponent's space and maintain continuous offense. Lighter defense, high offensive continuity.
Ahri: Unique movement patterns with Charm. Wide range of options from close to mid-range.
Vi: Straight-ahead rushdown centered on punch combos. Combos extend easily and pair well with assist calls.
Akali: Added in Season 2. High-mobility, high-damage character with teleportation. Highly tricky and evasive.
Zoner
Characters who use projectiles and traps to prevent opponents from getting close.
Champions: Caitlyn, Teemo (Trap)
Notes: Specializes in long-range poking and controlling approach angles. Weak at close range — distance management is critical.
Caitlyn: Sniper rifle and trap-based long-range control. Maintain safe distance while covering point fighter with assists.
Teemo: Unique mushroom-trap screen control. Requires predicting opponent movement to maximize trap effectiveness.
Mixup
Tricky champions that confuse opponents with unpredictable options.
Champions: Ekko, Jinx
Notes: Wide variety of high/low, left/right, and throw options. Difficult to deal with consistently once mastered.
Striker
Combo-oriented characters with high damage output.
Notes: Builds damage through long combo sequences. Rewards thorough route research.
Trap
Characters that deal delayed damage through setups and installations.
Notes: Plants traps and setups on the field to deal damage over time.
Top 5 Beginner Champions
1. Darius (All-Rounder)

2. Illaoi (Bruiser)
Straightforward game plan. Tentacles are strong but even just normals and specials are enough to get started. Long reach makes attacks easy to land.
3. Braum (Bruiser)
High defensive capability, excellent as an assist character too. Great for players who prefer a defensive-counter style of play.
4. Vi (Rushdown)
Fun punch combos and intuitive combo structure. Damage scales well with Fuse combinations.

Champion Selection Advice
- Stick with one team for weeks: Consistency with one team accelerates improvement more than experimenting constantly
- Decide your point character first: The point character is on screen more — learn them as your primary
- Learn your assist's moves: Understanding what your assist attack looks like transforms how you use Fuses
- Prioritize enjoyment over tier placement: Playing a character you enjoy leads to more consistent practice
