Rating

Lightning Rod is an A-tier persistent debuff ball. On contact, it embeds a lightning rod in the target. From that moment, lightning automatically strikes the rodded enemy every X seconds — and each strike chains to up to X nearby enemies, dealing damage across the surrounding group.

The key advantage: once planted, the rod fires on its own without any further player input. Embedding multiple rods across different enemies means multiple simultaneous lightning strikes every X seconds, creating a dense grid of automatic AoE coverage.

Rod a boss and the chain lightning hits the boss plus all surrounding minions with every strike. Rod minions near a boss to channel lightning into the boss indirectly while also clearing waves.

When to Pick

  • Long encounters where automatic tick damage compounds into high total output
  • Stages with densely grouped enemies where chains hit many targets per strike
  • Builds supplementing active damage with reliable passive area coverage
  • Boss + minion compositions where chains simultaneously damage both

  1. Rod as many targets as possible — each independent rod fires separately every X seconds; multiple rods mean multiple simultaneous strikes
  2. Boss rods deliver dual value — the rod on the boss hits it directly, and the chain clears surrounding minions at the same time
  3. Dense packs amplify chains — rodded enemies near clusters let each strike chain into many targets per activation
  4. Maintain coverage — rods expire over time; keep refreshing them by re-throwing to maintain continuous automatic lightning coverage
