Karkoplid
This amphibious monstrosity can retract into its shell and snap it shut, leaving no part of its body exposed. This is an excellent defense mechanism, but more often than not, the shell serves as a giant rat trap, slamming closed on the creature’s targets to incapacitate them. From there, the Karkoplid shows a grim kind of inventiveness: it may drag its victim underwater to drown it, tear it apart with its fearsome claws, strangle it slowly, or even swallow it whole.
