Symbiotic Virus is a Defect-only relic that auto-channels a Dark orb at the start of combat. Dark orbs accumulate damage each turn, so getting one online from turn 1 is a huge tempo advantage.
Dark orbs build up Focus+6 damage per turn and unload the stored damage on Evoke. Since it's channeled from the opening, a 10-turn boss fight routinely leaves 60+ damage primed in the orb. Higher Focus accelerates accumulation, so it synergizes especially well with Data Disk and Defragment.
In short fights the buildup doesn't pay off, but having two orbs (Dark + the starter Lightning from Cracked Core) deployed on turn 1 is still valuable. It also accelerates Metronome's counter, adding indirect synergy.
