Overview

Item Details
English Name Zweihander
Chinese Name 双手大剑
How to Unlock Evolve Flamberge
Evolution Material Auto-evolves at MAX level (no passive required)
Pickup Priority B

Effect and Behavior

Zweihander is the evolved form of Flamberge — a massive two-handed sword. "Zweihänder" means "two-hander" in German, referring to the large two-handed swords wielded by 16th-century Landsknecht mercenaries. Because Flamberge is itself an evolved weapon, Zweihander arrives with high baseline damage and wide attack coverage from the start.

When a Glimmer procs, the "Absetzen" technique activates. Absetzen is a German fencing term for simultaneously parrying an opponent's thrust while delivering a counter-thrust — in-game, it fires a sudden powerful additional strike independent of the standard attack calculation. Each Absetzen proc delivers a burst of damage on top of normal output.

Zweihander auto-evolves at MAX level with no passive required — not for its first evolution (Flamberge → Zweihander) and not for its second. All six passive slots remain completely free throughout the entire run.

Evolution Path

Zweihander evolves automatically upon reaching MAX level — no passive item needed. Open a chest after 10:00 to trigger.

Condition Detail
Required Passive None (auto-evolves)
Timing Open a chest after 10:00
Passive Slots Used 0 — all six slots remain free

Strengths

Complete six-slot passive freedom is the defining build advantage. Other evolution weapons sacrifice one slot to their required passive — Zweihander demands nothing, allowing every slot to be filled with pure power options: Spinach, Candelabrador, Bracer, Pummarola, Tiragisù simultaneously. The Flamberge evolution provides high base stats from the moment it arrives. Absetzen procs add burst damage that scales sharply with high Might, making the weapon competitive in damage output against weapons that do require passive investment.

Weaknesses

Flamberge must be evolved first, requiring that weapon slot to be held and developed throughout the early and mid-game. Runs that don't include Flamberge cannot access this evolution chain. Absetzen is Glimmer-dependent and fires at random — it cannot be deliberately triggered on demand.

Recommended Characters

Gameplay Tips

Build the ideal six-passive loadout that evolution-material weapons can never achieve: Spinach + Candelabrador + Bracer + Pummarola + Tiragisù + one flex slot — all simultaneously, with no slot wasted on an evolution requirement. This is the primary reason to prioritize Zweihander over competing evolved weapons of similar power level. Stack Bracer early since Speed raises both attack frequency and Glimmer proc rate, directly improving Absetzen output. Develop Flamberge from the start of the run and evolve to Zweihander as early as possible to start benefiting from the full six-slot freedom.

FAQ

Q. Is Flamberge required to get Zweihander? A. Yes — Zweihander is obtained only by evolving Flamberge. Only runs where Flamberge occupies a weapon slot can access this evolution chain.

Q. How do I take advantage of having all six passive slots free? A. Fill every slot with direct power upgrades — no slot is locked to an evolution material. Spinach, Candelabrador, Bracer, Pummarola, and Tiragisù simultaneously is achievable, something most other evolution weapons cannot do.

Q. How do I trigger Absetzen? A. It fires automatically via the Glimmer system at a random chance. Speed increases attack frequency, which increases Glimmer proc opportunities. The Strange Destiny Arcana specifically raises Glimmer rate if maximizing Absetzen is a priority.
