Katana Harold Build
Katana Harold Build
Core Mechanic
The Hateful Hat class item, Harold, applies Regeneration with high probability when you take a debuff and deals magic damage proportional to the healing.
In the early game, sharpen the Katana with Whetstone and push damage through Harold's crit-rate buff. From there, the build branches into lifesteal/mana-stack or ice variants — a flexible style. Because the trigger is debuffs on yourself, plant self-harm sources like Pestilence Flask or poison spear.
Recommended Subclass: Hateful Hat
Hateful Hat is mandatory at Round 8. Harold is the centerpiece.
Core Items and Placement
| Item | Role |
|---|---|
| Harold | Class core; debuff triggers Regeneration + magic damage |
| Katana | Main damage weapon; sharpened with Whetstone |
| Whetstone | Sharpens Katana |
| Cap of Discomforts | Self-debuff source |
| Mana Orb | Mana supply |
| Amethyst | Deliberately strip your own buffs |
Center Harold and place Katana nearby. Place Whetstone adjacent to Katana to maintain its boost. Add self-debuff sources (Cap of Discomforts, etc.) around them.
Build Order
Early game (Rounds 1-6)
Prioritize Whetstone and Katana. Move Wooden Sword → Katana.
Mid game (Rounds 7-12)
Take Hateful Hat at Round 8. Center Harold and place Katana + Whetstone around. Splice in self-debuff sources.
Late game (Round 13+)
Branch decision: lifesteal / mana-stack or ice. The former adds Bloodthorn-line items, the latter Frozen Flame-line items.
Tactics and Positioning
The unique structure is "self-debuff to trigger Harold". HP management matters — don't rely solely on Harold's Regen, run Healing Herbs alongside. The late-game branch decision changes the win condition, so judge based on shop offerings.
Difficult Matchups and Counters
- Sustained-debuff opponents: matchup is not bad, but HP can dip hard. Healing Herbs help.
- Buff-strip: removing Harold buffs hurts.
- High armor: even Katana can struggle to pierce. Mix in a Double Axe.
Variations
Lifesteal branch: Bloodthorn + Harold for lifesteal + magic damage hybrid. Ice branch: Frozen Flame + ice weapons for defense + offense. Pairing with Rainbow (Rainbow Potion) is hard for placement.
