Why Synergy Matters
In Heart of Crown, collecting individually powerful cards is not enough to win. Building a deck around card synergies is the most direct path to consistent victory.
This guide explains combinations where "having both cards is dramatically better than having either alone" — rated by impact.
S-Tier: Synergies You Can't Afford Not to Know
Star-Reading Witch + Alchemist
Rating: S — One of the base set's strongest combos
How It Works
Star-Reading Witch filters the top 2 cards of your deck; Alchemist draws 2. Together:
- Push weak cards (Villages etc.) to the discard
- Draw the strong cards you kept with certainty
Practical Application
Set up your coronation turn: use the Witch to put Metropolis on top of your deck, then draw it next turn for a guaranteed coronation hand.
Caveat
Either card alone is underwhelming. Their power is multiplicative — both needed.
Second Princess Laoriri + Court Lady
Rating: S — The economy explosion that decides games
How It Works
Coronating Laoriri gives you up to 5 Court Ladies (2 coins each).
5 Court Ladies + existing Cities + Metropolis = 15–20+ coins per turn.
Economy Math
- Buy Duke (6 VP, cost 8) every turn → 48+ VP in 8–10 turns
- With 15+ coins, Emperor's Crown (14 VP, cost 13) is reachable too
Maximizing the Combo
Enter coronation with 1–2 Court Ladies already in your deck. After coronating, you'll have up to 7 total Court Ladies for even more explosive economy.
Library + Action Chain
Rating: S — The essential engine for high-action decks
How It Works
Library generates extra coins for every action card you play. Chain Express Horse, Alchemist, Trade Ship, Supply Corps in sequence:
Play 3–4 action cards in one turn → Library effects stack to add 6–8 coins total.
Hand size and coins grow together in a snowball effect.
Ideal Setup
Library (cost 4) × 2 + Express Horse (cost 2) × 2 + Alchemist (cost 5) × 1
A-Tier: Synergies That Improve Win Rate Significantly
Donation + Star-Reading Witch (Compression Synergy)
Rating: A — Defines your early game approach
Every Village you exile with Donation improves the Witch's hit rate:
- 7 Villages remaining → drawing 5 cards almost always includes 2–3 Villages
- 0 Villages → all 5 draws are productive cards
Purchase order matters: compress with Donation first, then add Star-Reading Witch to sculpt the lean deck.
Cursing Witch + Charming Witch (Double Disruption)
Rating: A — Simultaneously destroys opponent economy and hand
When you have both:
- Cursing Witch: Dumps Curses (−2 VP) into opponent decks
- Charming Witch: Forces opponents to discard action cards from hand
Opponents face a poisoned deck and no actions — a severe double-threat.
How to Counter This Combo
Buying Magic Amulet (curse removal) or Rampart (attack defense) significantly reduces the damage.
Bank + City + Metropolis (Treasure Combo)
Rating: A — Explosive late-game coin generation
Bank gives +1 coin if you've already played a City or Metropolis.
Sample Calculation (Bank ×3, City ×2, Metropolis ×1 in hand)
- City ×2: 4 coins
- Metropolis ×1: 3 coins
- Bank ×3 (after territories played): 2×3 + bonuses = 8+ coins
- Total: 15+ coins
Especially devastating in the post-coronation succession point race.
Flamaria + Star-Reading Witch + Alchemist
Rating: A — Coronation that instantly upgrades the deck two levels
Coronating Flamaria to grab Star-Reading Witch (cost 3) + Alchemist (cost 5) onto your deck top means your full draw engine is running from the very next turn.
Bergamot + Supply Corps
Rating: A — Use the same action card effectively twice per turn
Supply Corps (cost 4) places an action card from play area on top of deck at cleanup. Combined with Bergamot's ability:
- Play Supply Corps during your turn
- Cleanup: Supply Corps goes back to deck top
- Bergamot ability: discard 1 → retrieve Supply Corps to hand
- Play Supply Corps again
This effectively doubles your action card plays each turn.
B-Tier: Synergies That Expand Your Strategic Range
Express Horse + Any Action Card
Rating: B — Universal engine-shifter
Express Horse (cost 2, draw 1) pairs well with almost any action card. Larger hand sizes mean more action plays, making it easier to trigger any combo chain.
Land Development + Village/City
Rating: B — Economic step-up ladder
Land Development (cost 3) upgrades Village → City or City → Metropolis. Slower than direct purchases, but lets you improve card quality in the early turns when coins are scarce.
Free Market (Far East) + Economy Strategy
Rating: B — Far East expansion economy accelerator
Free Market (cost 2): 1 coin + optionally add a City to your deck bottom. Gets Cities into your deck one turn faster than buying them normally, meaningfully accelerating early economic construction.
How to Spot Synergies From the Supply
When you see the supply at the start of a game, work through this checklist:
- Are there compression cards? (Donation, Temple) → Start a compression route
- Are there multiple draw cards? (Express Horse, Alchemist, Library) → Combo deck material
- Are there many attack cards? (Cursing Witch, Charming Witch, Infantry Battalion) → Control build material
- Which cards combine with the available princesses? → Laoriri + Court Ladies, Flamaria + Witch/Alchemist, etc.
The more synergies overlap in a single deck, the stronger the deck becomes exponentially.
