What is Vampire Survivors?
Vampire Survivors is an auto-attack reverse bullet-hell. You only move your character while weapons fire automatically, and your goal is to survive waves of monsters for up to 30 minutes.
Despite its simple controls, weapon combination (build) and evolution choices create deep strategic layers.
Basic Game Flow
- Choose character and stage: Start with Antonio and Mad Forest
- Pick weapons and passives on level-up: Kill enemies for XP, then choose new items on each level-up
- Level each weapon to max: Each weapon has a max of level 8
- Get evolved weapons from chests: With evolution conditions met, opening a boss chest triggers the evolution
- Survive 30 minutes: Red Death appears at 30:00 — lure it off-screen while staying alive
Weapon Fundamentals
Weapon Slot Cap
You have a maximum of 6 weapon slots and 6 passive slots. Once all 12 are full, your level-up options become restricted.
Tip: Cap weapons at 5 to keep one slot free for extra passives.
How Evolution Works
Three conditions must all be met:
- Weapon at max level (level 8)
- Holding the required passive item
- Opening a chest (available after the first boss at 10:00+)
After evolution, the weapon is replaced by a far stronger version with enhanced damage and effects.

Early Game Strategy (0:00–10:00)
0:00–5:00: Build Foundation
- Max your starting weapon first: Whip for Antonio, Runetracer for Poe, etc.
- Pick up a second S-tier weapon: King Bible or Garlic whenever offered
- Grab Empty Tome early: Cooldown reduction raises DPS on every weapon simultaneously
- Collect evolution material passives in parallel: Secure the matching material early
5:00–10:00: Evolution Prep
- Push 3–4 weapons toward max level
- Confirm you have each weapon's evolution material
- Kill the 10:00 boss and open the chest: Evolutions become available from here
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Filling all 6 weapon slots: You lose chances to stack passives
- Forgetting evolution materials: Not prioritizing Spinach, Empty Tome, etc.
- Picking items randomly: Without an evolution target in mind, you end up with half-built weapons
First-Clear Build (Reliable Template)
| Slot | Item | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon 1 | Whip → Bloody Tear | Main DPS |
| Weapon 2 | King Bible → Unholy Vespers | Surround control |
| Weapon 3 | Fire Wand → Hellfire | Mid-range chip |
| Weapon 4 | Garlic | Contact range trash clear |
| Passive 1 | Empty Tome | Cooldown reduction for everything |
| Passive 2 | Spinach | Hellfire material + Might boost |
| Passive 3 | Spellbinder | Unholy Vespers material |
| Passive 4 | Hollow Heart | Bloody Tear material + HP |
Once three evolved weapons are online, fill remaining slots with Crown, Pummarola, or Duplicator for further power.
Handling Red Death (30:00)
Red Death spawns at 30:00. Normal damage barely affects it and contact is essentially instant death.
How to survive:
- Start moving toward a map edge around 29:00
- When Red Death spawns, lure it off-screen
- With three evolved weapons running, just keep kiting while clearing remaining trash
- Orbit the map in circles: Running in a straight line leads to getting cornered
