Effect and Mechanics

Muddle is an enemy black debuff card that randomizes the player's deck order. It instantaneously destroys carefully sequenced combo staircases. The more a build depends on specific draw order, the more devastating a single Muddle becomes.

Mana-efficiency combos requiring exact cost sequencing (1-cost → 2-cost → 3-cost) can be completely invalidated.

Counters

Primary Muddle countermeasures:

  1. Flexible combo design: Minimize strict draw-order dependency (uniform mana costs)
  2. Thin deck: Fewer cards = faster recovery from a shuffle
  3. Draw acceleration: Rapidly cycle through the reordered deck to reestablish patterns
  4. Play through it: When Muddle appears in hand, play it immediately and continue

Muddle is among the hardest enemy cards to fully counter. The foundational answer is reducing combo sequence dependency in deck construction.

Muddle Vulnerability by Build Type

High vulnerability:

  • Strict mana-cost-sequence combos
  • Builds that require specific cards at specific timings

Low vulnerability:

  • 0-cost-heavy builds where order doesn't matter
  • Broad AoE builds tolerant of randomness
  • Wild-gem-equalized builds with uniform mana costs
