As the Eye of the Abyss grew to gargantuan proportions, it must have gradually lost the ability to move swiftly across long distances. And at some point, it had to enslave two creatures to hunt for it and continue feeding its insatiable hunger.

Over time, they too became unrecognizable due to excessive mutations. They lost their former selves, and their entire existence was eventually reduced to serving their horrifying master. At least, that’s my hypothesis.
