  • Effect: Turn over your Journey token. If face-up: +$1. If face-down: +$5, each opponent reveals top of deck and trashes if it costs $3-$6, else discards.

Rating

A uniquely-shaped attack. Alternating +$5/+$1 via Journey token, with a brutal trash effect when at +$5.

Biggest strength: "$5 punch + force-trashing $3-$6 cards." Silver, Gold, engine parts get hit. Estates ($2) and Curses ($0) are safe, but opponents constantly risk losing important deck pieces.

Community consensus: strong attack, top of cost-5 attacks. Tier A-S.

How to Play

Early $5: take Giant. Competing with Smithy/Gold; in attacking boards Giant wins.

Mid: Fire Giant every turn. +$5 turns = Province + attack double-up. +$1 turns reinforced with Caravan Guard etc.

Two Giants: alternate +5 and +1. Combined +$6 still hits hard. Three Giants brings +$5 frequency to 2-of-3.

Key Combos

Giant + King's Court: KC-Giant = +$1 +$5 +$1 = +$7 with two attacks.

Giant + on-gain treasures (Hero): +$5 Province plus attack.

Giant + Amulet: Journey refresh.

Synergies

  • King's Court: doubling.
  • Remodel / Expand: trash chains.
  • Caravan Guard: +$1-turn buffer.
  • Hero: +$5 Province turn.
  • Teacher: token boost.

Counters & Bad Matchups

  • Estate-heavy strategies: opponents' Estates ($2) immune to trash.
  • Heavily thinned opponents: few $3-$6 cards to hit.
  • Terminal-collision: Giant terminal — needs Villages.

Advanced Tips

Journey token is per-player. Track each player's +5/+1 state.

Before buying Giant, scout opponents' decks for $3-$6 density.

+$5 turn = Province priority. +$1 turn = Silver or another Giant.

Mirror: simultaneous Giants double-attack — thinner deck loses more.

Amulet etc. can intentionally manage Journey token state.
