Build Concept
Lama's Multi-Evolution build flips the curse mechanic on its head. Where curse is a penalty for every other Crawler, Lama's unique passive converts every curse trigger into bonus burning damage against enemies. The strategy: deliberately raise curse with Skull O'Maniac, clear the dungeon under high-curse conditions, and pursue two simultaneous weapon evolutions—Axe into Death Spiral, and Fire Wand into Hellfire—to generate overwhelming multi-axis damage output.
Lama's unlock requirement is clearing a dungeon at 10% curse or higher, so this build naturally satisfies achievement farming while pursuing its high-damage goals.
Lama's Unique Ability
Lama starts with 60 HP, 3 hand size, and 2 mana—low mana is the defining constraint on her kit. Her passive fires burning damage on the enemies every time a curse triggers, meaning the higher the curse rate, the higher the sustained DPS during combat. Lama is the only Crawler for whom a high curse rate represents a pure mechanical advantage.
Core Cards
Axe → Death Spiral
Axe evolves into Death Spiral by combining with candle-type cards (Candle, Candella, or Candelabra). Death Spiral combines wide area-of-effect coverage with strong base damage, and the bonus burning from Lama's curse passive stacks on top of every hit. Completing this evolution is the first priority.
Fire Wand → Hellfire
The second evolution target. Fire Wand combined with Spinach evolves into Hellfire, which applies sustained burning stacks to a large area. Lama's bonus burning from curse triggers overlaps with Hellfire's burning application, creating a double-burn situation that significantly raises sustained damage against clustered enemies. Run one to two copies of Fire Wand and begin this evolution line after Death Spiral is complete.
Skull O'Maniac
The dedicated tool for raising curse intentionally. Because curse triggers equal bonus burning damage for Lama, this card actively improves combat performance rather than penalizing it. Running Skull O'Maniac also accelerates progress toward the 10%+ curse achievement unlock. Keep to one or two copies to avoid clogging the hand.
Mana Books and Armor
Lama's 2 starting mana is the main bottleneck. Running more Mana Books than other Crawlers would typically require smooths out the mana curve, especially with two evolution material lines competing for deck space. Zero-cost and 1-cost cards fill critical bridging roles.
Recommended Arcanas
Mana Syphon
Permanently raises maximum mana by 1 every 100 cards played. Pursuing two simultaneous evolutions creates a heavier deck than single-evolution runs, and Lama's low starting mana makes additional capacity especially valuable. The longer the run, the more mana headroom accumulates—take this arcana as early as it becomes available.
Chain Link
Preserves combo across turns. Decks running multiple evolution material cards are prone to occasional staircase breaks due to the varied cost distribution of evolution pieces. Chain Link allows the combo multiplier to survive those imperfect turns, so evolved finishers can still land under a meaningful multiplier.
Evolution Path
Axe + Candle / Candella / Candelabra → Death Spiral
First priority. The primary finisher and the core of Lama's damage output. Secure Axe and at least one candle-type card before committing to the second evolution line.
Fire Wand + Spinach → Hellfire
Second priority. Begin collecting materials after Death Spiral is complete. Two simultaneous evolutions filling the field creates overlapping burning effects from both Hellfire and Lama's curse-triggered burning, pushing sustained DPS far higher than either alone.
Target Deck Composition
| Cost | Count | Key Cards |
|---|---|---|
| 0-cost | 4 | Bone, Armor, Skull O'Maniac |
| 1-cost | 4 | Axe / Death Spiral, Fire Wand / Hellfire, Mana Books |
| 2-cost | 3 | Candle-type, Spinach, Mana Books |
| 3-cost | 1 | Finisher card |
Lama's 3-card hand demands a tight deck. Keep total card count low to ensure evolved weapons appear in hand frequently.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths: Curse rate scales directly with Lama's DPS output, achievement unlock and high damage occur simultaneously, two evolution axes create varied attack coverage that is harder to counter with single-resistance enemies.
Weaknesses: Low starting mana is the most consistent constraint. Collecting materials for two evolutions simultaneously leaves imperfect cards in the deck during the mid-game. High curse rates can inflate shop prices, requiring earlier purchase planning.
Play Tips
Secure Axe and a candle-type card first. Complete Death Spiral, then begin the Fire Wand and Spinach collection for Hellfire. Running both lines in parallel risks splitting resources without completing either.
When mana runs short, chain 0-cost cards to maintain the combo counter, then feed evolved weapons into the chain once the multiplier is elevated. Mana efficiency is more critical for Lama than for any other Crawler in this build because every wasted mana is a missed combo link on a tight 2-mana budget.
