Jet Black Whip

Overview

Item Details
English Name Jet Black Whip
Japanese Name しっこくのムチ
Chinese Name 深黑神鞭
Weapon Type Whip strike (nearest-enemy targeting + linear damage zone)
Evolution Material Stone Mask
Evolves To Mormegil Tip
Pickup Priority B

Effect and Behavior

Strikes the nearest enemy with a whip crack, then generates a linear damaging zone along the attack path. The whip deals direct hit damage, and the zone lingers on the field — enemies that walk through it take continued damage after the initial strike. Level scaling increases whip damage, range, and the size and duration of the generated zone.

Unlocked by surviving 14 minutes with Christopher Belmond (Castlevania DLC). Stone Mask — the evolution material — also increases gold acquisition by 10%, so holding it for evolution delivers an economic side benefit across the run.

Evolution Conditions

Max Jet Black Whip (Lv 8), carry Stone Mask (a field-drop item that increases gold gains by 10%), and open an elite-drop chest after 10:00 to evolve into Mormegil Tip.

Mormegil Tip Effect

After evolution every 8th weapon activation triggers an additional damaging zone. Zone production accelerates proportionally with fire rate — in dense crowds where activations happen rapidly, zones stack and overlap for substantially higher cumulative damage.

Strengths

  • Nearest-enemy homing ensures consistent targeting without directional input
  • Lingering damage zones add a second hit layer after each whip crack
  • Stone Mask's gold bonus provides economic side benefit alongside evolution
  • Post-evolution 8th-activation bonus accelerates zone density in crowds

Weaknesses

  • Requires the Castlevania DLC
  • Unlocked only by surviving 14 minutes with Christopher Belmond
  • Zone damage against single bosses depends on landing position accuracy
  • Stone Mask availability timing affects evolution pace

Recommended Characters

  • Christopher Belmond: the unlock character — natural fit and early access
  • Gennaro: extra projectile count adds whip strikes per volley
  • Imelda: +10% Growth speeds evolution

Recommended Passives

  • Stone Mask: mandatory for evolution; gold bonus is a lasting benefit (top priority)
  • Spellbinder: extends damage zone duration, increasing how long each zone damages enemies
  • Spinach: +10% Might raises both whip strike and zone damage
  • Candelabrador: wider area expands zone size

Synergistic Arcanas

  • IX Divine Bloodline: crit compounding with both whip hit and zone layers
  • V Awake: duration bonus stacks with Spellbinder to keep zones active longer

Strategy and Tips

  • Early (0–10 min): Level Jet Black Whip and collect Stone Mask early — the gold bonus applies from the moment you pick it up, helping build economy while you level.
  • Mid (10–20 min): Hit Lv MAX + Stone Mask → evolve into Mormegil Tip. Position in dense clusters to maximize 8th-activation zone triggers.
  • Late (20+ min): Add Spellbinder to extend zone duration. Overlapping zones from rapid activations create a persistent damage field in tight enemy corridors.

FAQ

Q: How do I unlock Jet Black Whip?
A: Survive 14 minutes with Christopher Belmond. The Castlevania DLC is required to access both the character and the weapon.

Q: Is Stone Mask worth keeping after evolution?
A: Yes — Stone Mask's gold bonus continues even after Jet Black Whip is evolved. Unless you need the passive slot for something more critical, holding it for the gold benefit is worthwhile.

Q: How long do the damage zones last?
A: Base duration is moderate; adding Spellbinder significantly extends how long each zone remains active, allowing multiple zones to overlap and stack damage on enemies that linger.
