Regent Debuff Control Build
Overview
The Debuff Control Build turns Regent into a control-oriented character by stacking debuffs on enemies before dealing damage. Vulnerable (enemies take 50% more damage) and Weak (enemies deal 25% less damage) are the primary tools — together they simultaneously boost your offense and reduce incoming damage. With both active, every attack card in your hand is effectively amplified and every hit you take is softened, creating a stable, snowballing advantage that works against Elites and Bosses alike.
Key Cards
- Know Thy Place: Skill that applies Vulnerable to an enemy; core debuff enabler that multiplies all subsequent Attack damage by 1.5x.
- Monarch's Gaze: Power that applies Weak to enemies at the start of their turn, reducing incoming damage passively each round.
- Devastate: Attack that deals damage and applies a debuff simultaneously, combining offense and setup in a single card play.
- Crash Landing: Attack that applies Vulnerable or Weak on hit, generating debuff value alongside damage output.
- Foregone Conclusion: Skill that locks in a debuff state or prevents enemies from clearing debuffs for a turn, maintaining the control layer.
- Gamma Blast: Skill that applies multiple debuff stacks in a single play, the most efficient burst debuffer available to Regent.
- Tyranny: Power that amplifies debuff stacks or extends their duration, making each debuff application cover more turns.
Key Relics
- Fencing Manual: Provides bonus effects when debuffed enemies are attacked, directly rewarding the debuff-first gameplan.
- Orange Dough: Regent-specific relic that generates Stars or provides bonuses when debuffs are applied, bridging the control and Star strategies.
- Divine Destiny: Triggers on Stars consumed — pairing debuff control with Sovereign Blade spending allows this relic to fire each turn.
Strategy
- Open every combat by applying Vulnerable with Know Thy Place or Crash Landing — the 50% damage amplifier pays off on every subsequent attack this turn and future turns.
- Add Weak sources (Monarch's Gaze Power, Gamma Blast) once Vulnerable is reliably covered; the combined debuff state reduces damage taken by ~25% and amplifies damage dealt by ~50%.
- After debuffs are established, play your highest-damage Attack cards (Devastate, Hegemony, Celestial Might) to take maximum advantage of Vulnerable.
- In multi-enemy rooms, prioritize debuffing the enemy with the highest attack value first; reducing their damage is more valuable than starting on the weakest target.
- Refresh expiring debuffs before they fall off — an enemy losing Vulnerable mid-fight wastes the setup investment.
Pick Priority
- Highest: Know Thy Place, Monarch's Gaze (primary Vulnerable and Weak sources)
- High: Gamma Blast, Tyranny (burst debuff application and extension)
- Medium: Devastate, Crash Landing (combined attack + debuff cards)
- Low: Pure Block cards without debuff interaction; this build generates safety through Weak, not raw Block
Tips
- Artifact enemies absorb the first debuff applied each combat. Always use a cheap throwaway debuff (or a card that applies multiple stacks) to pop Artifact before committing Know Thy Place.
- Vulnerable is the higher-priority debuff of the two — apply it first before Weak; the damage amplification return is greater in most combats.
- Against enemies with Debuff Immunity (some Act 3 elites), this build's efficiency drops significantly. Keep 2-3 high-base-damage attacks for those encounters.
- Tyranny's debuff extension means you can apply Vulnerable less frequently late in long fights — plan your turns to avoid redundant re-applications.
