Basic Info
- HP: 173 (Ascension: 183)
- Act: Overgrowth
- Subregion: Overgrowth
- Passive: Slip 9 — Next time Vantom would lose HP, it loses only 1 HP instead. (9 remaining)
Slip is the defining gimmick of this fight. Your first 9 damage sources each only deal 1 HP of damage. Even a 100-damage hit chips off just 1 HP, so decks that lean on a single big strike are extremely inefficient until Slip is stripped.
Attack Patterns
Vantom acts on a 4-turn cycle.
| Turn | Action | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ink Stain | 9 damage + applies Slip debuff |
| 2 | Ink Spear | Medium attack with increased damage |
| 3 | Sever | 25+ damage heavy hit |
| 4 | Prepare | Gains buff + resets cycle |
The turn 3 Sever is the peak of the fight. 25+ damage comes in raw, so running out of Block here often ends the run. Turns 1 and 2 deal light damage by comparison, giving you space to burn Slip stacks. After the turn 4 Prepare, the cycle repeats from turn 1.
Strategy Points
The core of beating Vantom is two things: stripping Slip efficiently, and preparing for turn 3.
The most efficient way to strip Slip is spamming cheap attack cards. Since every hit only does 1 damage anyway, 0- or 1-cost attacks are plenty. Use turns 1 and 2 purely for Slip removal and convert leftover Energy into Block. Hold high-cost attacks back for after Slip is gone — the value of big damage only materializes once Slip is cleared.
Poison and any HP-loss effect also burn Slip stacks. End-of-turn poison damage consumes one Slip, so Poison decks can strip Slip and damage Vantom at the same time. Lightning Orb ticks work the same way.
Against the turn 3 Sever, hold your best Block card and any defensive Potions. Frost Potion or Block Potion fire here. The ideal flow is: strip Slip and build Block on turns 1-2, survive the turn 3 Sever, then counterattack while Vantom uses Prepare on turn 4.
From cycle 2 onward the buff from Prepare makes Sever hit even harder, so end the fight within 1-2 cycles whenever possible.
Per-Character Counters
- Ironclad: Multi-hit cards like Whirlwind strip Slip in bulk — one of the fastest Slip-strippers in the game. Barricade or Metallicize handle Sever
- Silent: Knife-based multi-hit cards burn Slip efficiently. Poison also consumes Slip, so pairing with Catalyst keeps real damage flowing. Footwork and Afterimage absorb the turn 3 Sever
- Defect: Lightning Orb ticks chip away at Slip every turn automatically. Stacking multiple Orbs scales that up, and Frost Orbs naturally prep for Sever
- Necrobinder: Minion attacks consume Slip too. Field multiple minions and Slip auto-strips, freeing your hand for defense
- Regent: Power-based damage-over-time consumes Slip while you use your main hand to Block up for Sever. Landing Powers early is the stabilizer
