Choices
"Leave an offering"
- Pay Gold. Gain a random Relic
"Reach into the mushrooms"
- Remove 2 cards from your deck. Add Mycelial Contamination to your deck
Recommended Choice
"Reach into the mushrooms" is strongly recommended for players who prioritize deck compression. Removing 2 cards is extremely powerful, since you can cut 2 Strikes or 2 Defends in one go. The Curse "Mycelial Contamination" enters your deck, but the net card count drops by 1 (2 removed minus 1 Curse added). That is an excellent trade from a compression standpoint.
"Leave an offering" is the safe option, paying Gold for a Relic. If you have Gold to spare, the Relic's permanent effect is attractive. It is particularly good if you have surplus Gold and nothing specific you want to buy at the Shop.
Strategy
- The cost of removing 2 cards is 1 Curse added, but in practice that nets out to compressing the deck by 1 card. If you use it to delete 2 Strikes and take 1 Curse, you can reason that 1 Curse is still better than 2 Strikes in the deck
- If you have Curse removal, you can remove the 2 cards and then strip out Mycelial Contamination as well, for a total of 3 cards of compression. Extremely efficient
- Check the Gold cost. If the Relic option costs more than 200 Gold, running card removal twice at the Shop may actually be more cost efficient
- Early in Act 1 when Gold is tight, "Reach into the mushrooms" is better since you save your Gold while improving your deck
- Confirm what Mycelial Contamination actually does as a Curse so you can judge the impact on your deck
- If your deck is already well compressed (15 cards or fewer for example), a single Curse hurts more, so going for the Relic is safer
