Orichalcum automatically grants 6 Block at end of turn if your Block is 0. It cushions turns where no Block card was played and serves as insurance for early Block shortages. Even on turns where you spend every bit of energy attacking, a minimum defense is guaranteed, stabilizing Act 1 in particular. Once your deck matures and every turn has a Block card, trigger frequency drops. Unlike Gorget, playing even one Block card disables the trigger, so occasionally leaning fully on Orichalcum's 6 Block beats a mediocre partial block.
