Effect by Rarity
| Rarity | Price | Weapon (Buff Strip) | Armor (Healing Reduction) | Backpack (Cleanse) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chipped (Common) | 1G | 25% / 1 buff | -12% | every 3.2s |
| Flawed (Rare) | 2G | 35% / 1 buff | -18% | every 2.5s |
| Regular (Epic) | 4G | 50% / 1 buff | -25% | every 2s |
| Flawless (Legendary) | 8G | 75% / 1 buff | -30% | every 1.6s |
| Perfect (Godly) | 16G | 70% / 2 buffs | -45% | every 1s |
Mechanics Details
- "Buff removal" can target any positive status the opponent holds: Regen, Shield, Heat, speed buffs, burn resistance, and so on, chosen at random. For stack-type buffs (e.g., 10 Regen) the behavior varies by buff — sometimes a single stack is removed (buff counter -1), sometimes the whole buff type is cleared.
- Comparing Flawless (75% / 1) and Perfect (70% / 2): Perfect's expected strips per proc is 0.7 x 2 = 1.4, clearly higher than Flawless's 0.75. Perfect is effectively ~2x the removal output.
- The armor effect applies a multiplicative reduction to enemy healing — Ruby lifesteal, Regen, food, potions, etc. all take the penalty, up to -45% at Perfect.
- Backpack cleanse removes one debuff from yourself (Poison, Cold, Heat, Blind, applied buff-removal effects, etc.). Perfect Amethyst's 1-second interval effectively shuts down ~10-stack Poison streams.
- Weapon procs are rolled per attack instance. On Falcon Blade's 2-hit swing, two rolls occur per animation, stacking effective proc rate.
- Unlike other gems, weapon-Amethyst procs fire regardless of damage dealt — even if Block/Shield zeroes out the damage, the buff strip still triggers.
Rating & Analysis
Amethyst is evaluated on disruption rather than damage. It is the most meta-dependent of the five gems, with its value swinging on enemy composition. But when it hits, it decides games — so in higher ranks it is often an obligatory meta pick.
Weapon Amethyst nukes Regen-, Shield-, and Heat-based builds at the root. If the opponent is healing via 20 Regen, stripping just one Regen stack can kill the entire healing engine. It is nearly mandatory into Mage and buff-stacking Reaper lists.
Armor Amethyst universally degrades enemy healing sources (Ruby, Regen, food). Perfect's -45% reduces Perfect Ruby's 35% lifesteal down to an effective 19.25%, making it the silent killer of heal-dependent builds.
Backpack Amethyst is "insurance on yourself." Constantly shedding Poison/Cold/Heat/etc. provides huge defensive uplift against Reaper and Ranger. Three Perfect Amethysts fires three cleanses per second — effectively full debuff immunity.
Compared to Ruby and Sapphire, Amethyst contributes little raw damage, but meta-targeted adoption delivers match-winning impact. The flexibility to choose the socket slot after scouting the opponent is its biggest strength.
Rating by Class
| Class | Rating | Analysis |
|---|---|---|
| Ranger | A | Multi-hit attacks from Shortbow and Falcon Blade maximize buff-strip expected value. Mandatory into Mage/Reaper. |
| Reaper | A- | Weapon buff strip plus backpack cleanse handles Blind and Cold, strengthening resistance to poison-reflect builds. |
| Berserker | A- | Armor Amethyst pressures enemy healing; complements burst-finishing builds. |
| Pyromancer | B+ | Backpack handles Cold/Blind counters. Heat builds benefit from stripping opposing defensive buffs for sustained damage. |
| Mage | A | Perfect Amethyst serves as a meta counter outside the Mana cycle, sweeping off enemy anti-Mage buffs (Cold, etc.). |
| Adventurer | A- | Strips enemy thorns-resistance buffs in Thornbloom builds — flexible meta application. |
| Engineer | A | High proc volume from rapid-fire weapons ensures consistent buff removal. Pairs well with Stingers. |
Recommended Use
- Socket into multi-hit/fast weapons (Falcon Blade, Shortbow) to maximize expected strips. A standard 4-socket spread is "Sapphire + Amethyst + Ruby" rainbow.
- When opposing a heal-centric build (Ruby / Regen / food), swap Amethyst into the armor slot. Perfect Amethyst's -45% is match-deciding.
- Against Reaper and Ranger, moving Amethyst to the backpack for debuff cleanse maximizes survivability.
- Flawless-to-Perfect looks like a downgrade (75% → 70%) at a glance, but strip count goes from 1 to 2, raising expected value. A top upgrade priority.
- Chipped at 1G is low proc rate (25%), but lands early against buff-stacking opponents. Consider early deployment based on meta reads.
- Weapon-socket procs fire regardless of damage, so they work against Block-heavy opponents who otherwise eat your hits.
Key Synergies
| Item | Reason |
|---|---|
| Falcon Blade | 2-hit attack + high attack speed triggers many buff-strip rolls in a short span. The optimal Amethyst platform. |
| Shortbow | Ranger's premier hit-volume weapon maximizes buff-strip expected value. Mandatory into buff-stacking targets. |
| Sapphire | Cold slow + buff removal layered. Staple rainbow socket distribution. |
| Critwood Staff | Critical hits add extra procs — including buff-strip rolls. Effective in Mage mirrors. |
| Swift Gloves | Attack speed buff raises the number of proc opportunities themselves. |
| Snail Slime | Slows the enemy while Amethyst steadily strips their buffs. |
| Lightning Staff / Lightning Wand | Multi-hit magic increases buff-strip rolls. Good armor-slot alternative for Mage builds. |
| Beehive | Bee swarm attacks also roll Amethyst procs, dramatically increasing total buff strips per match. |
Build Examples
Ranger Anti-Buff Meta
Two Falcon Blades with a combined 8-socket spread: "Sapphire x3 + Amethyst x3 + Ruby x2." From the opening second the combo strips buffs, applies Cold, and drains life at a proc-per-second rate, shredding opposing Regen/Shield/speed buffs. Place Perfect Amethyst x2 on weapons and fill remaining slots with Flawless to maintain proc density.
Anti-Heal Armor Build
Into healing-heavy opponents (Mage Wand / Reaper Healing Herb + Ruby / Adventurer Regen), place two Perfect Amethysts in armor for an effective -90% healing zone (multiplicative, not additive). Even Perfect Ruby becomes effectively nullified, winning the attrition war.
Anti-Debuff Backpack Cleanse
Against Reaper Poison or Engineer Cold specialists, stack three Perfect Amethysts in the backpack. Three cleanses per second effectively nullifies 10-stack Poison immediately. Your weapon sockets carry other gems (Ruby/Sapphire) for damage, outsourcing all defense to this pack.
Pitfalls & Caveats
- Amethyst deals no damage on its own. Against poor-match opponents it is fully dead weight, so other gems must carry the build.
- Weapon-socket strip chooses the removed buff at random. The more buffs the opponent has, the better it hits — but you cannot target a specific critical buff (like Regen).
- Armor socket reduces the enemy's healing, not yours. It is useless against opponents who don't rely on healing.
- Backpack cleanse selects debuffs randomly. With multiple debuffs stacked, it may not remove the most impactful one.
- You must commit to Perfect (70% / 2) for the expected strip count to surpass Flawless's in some cases — budget the 16G craft accordingly.
- Poison is a debuff, so your own Emerald / Belladonna's Whisper poison does not get targeted. Friendly Poison is not a cleanse target either, so no self-conflict arises.
