Requires a Chess Board as a prerequisite. Pieces are placed inside the Chess Board (not the main backpack), and a chess match plays out automatically during battle. Each time a piece captures an enemy piece, the "on capture" effect fires; each time it is captured, the "on being captured" effect fires.

White Pawn is the basic piece in Mage's chess system — a defensive piece that profits whether you capture or are captured. At 1G (the minimum price) it is easy to stockpile in the early rounds and serves as the bedrock of chess builds. Regen 2 is a slow, cumulative buff that pays off late in the match, and Luck 1 feeds downstream Luck synergies (crit rate, Luck bonuses).

The essence of chess builds is adding "combat power outside the backpack" as an independent layer. You deploy a separate combat line on the Chess Board without consuming backpack slots, so it runs fully in parallel with your standard Mage build (Wand of Equilibrium, Magic Wand, Mana Orb, etc.). Combined with Puzzlebag of Love for slot expansion and a Chess Board as a second power source, this is a late-stage Mage build.

White Pawn's greatest strength is its crafting-hub breadth. It branches into three upgrade paths — White Knight (active attacks), White Bishop (healing buffs), and White Rook (defensive support) — each central to advanced chess builds. Running White Pawns alongside Black Pawns produces a balanced white/black match; both colors exchange pieces frequently, multiplying activation opportunities.

Regen 2 is affected by Puzzlebag of Love's "healing +20%," giving effective Regen 2.4. Running several pawns at once can produce 10+ stacked Regen, which combined with the Wand of Equilibrium cycle delivers overwhelming sustained healing. In Bloodthorn builds, Regen is converted into Lifesteal + Spikes — an unusual synergy.

• The moment you buy a Chess Board, stockpile 4-8 pawns as the top priority. Captured / captured-by counts rise per match, compounding Regen and Luck
• Pair in roughly equal numbers with Black Pawn. White/black balance keeps the chess match active and increases exchanges
• With Puzzlebag of Love, Regen 2 becomes 2.4. Multiple pawns effectively supply Regen 10+
• Hold into mid game as crafting material for White Knight / White Bishop / White Rook. Upgrade when materials line up
• Pair with Bloodthorn (Regen → Lifesteal + Spikes conversion) to turn Regen into offense
• Luck 1 stacks with other Luck accessories (Lucky Clover, Acorn Necklace) to boost crit rate and Luck bonuses
• At 1G with sell-back, purchase risk is effectively zero. Sale chances can drop it to 0G — free pawn expansion

Mage Chess Full-Deploy

Chess Board + White Pawn x4 + Black Pawn x4 (eight-piece deploy) runs an independent combat line outside the backpack. Run it alongside Wand of Equilibrium + Magic for Dummies + Puzzlebag of Love for a dual-banner Mage build. Regen stacking + Mana supply + Poison application grinds the opponent down.

Mage Upgraded Pieces Build

Stockpile White Pawn x8 early, then craft into three white upgrades (Knight / Bishop / Rook) in mid game. Upgrade black side similarly for a six-piece chess match. Per-match activation counts explode, and compound buffs (Regen / Mana / Poison) dominate.

Mage Bloodthorn Conversion Build

Multiple White Pawns + Bloodthorn converts all Regen gains into Lifesteal + Spikes. Every capture in the chess match triggers Bloodthorn's reflect damage and lifesteal — a defensive piece transformed into an offensive damage source as an off-meta build.

• Mage-exclusive. Other classes cannot equip. Mind your class pick
• Without a Chess Board, nothing happens. Stockpiling pawns before securing a Chess Board is pointless
• Chess Board space is finite. Too many pieces make the board layout cramped and activation patterns hard to predict
• Regen 2 alone is modest. Stack multiple pawns or amplify via Puzzlebag of Love to feel the effect
• Upgrade materials (Knight/Bishop/Rook) depend on shop RNG. If materials never arrive, you get stuck at pawn level with insufficient damage
• Stacking only White Pawns breaks the white/black exchange and drops activation frequency. Always run paired with Black Pawn
• Chess builds are powerful when complete but depend heavily on shop luck. Treat them as supplementary combat power, not a replacement for your main build
