Adventurer Subclasses Complete Guide
What Are Subclasses?
In Backpack Battles, subclasses are special class customizations you select from the shop at Round 8. Each subclass comes with a dedicated class item that is immediately added to your backpack upon selection.
The Adventurer has 5 subclasses: Balancer, Bard, Fedora, Hammer Dagger, and Turtle — covering growth, sustain, theft, combo attacks, and counter-defense styles.
When and How to Choose Your Subclass
The Adventurer is a versatile class, but subclasses significantly shift your playstyle. Decide in advance whether you're aiming for a long sustained fight or a faster aggressive approach.
Basic selection guidelines:
- Long fight with stacking buffs across stats → Balancer
- Healing and support items assembled → Bard
- Want to steal opponent's buffs → Fedora
- Have hammer and dagger items → Hammer Dagger
- Defense and spike items collected → Turtle
Individual Subclass Details
Balancer — Long-Term Buff Accumulation Build
Class Item: Balance Scale — Maintaining balance between attack, defense, and speed during battle gradually accumulates buffs to all stats. The better the balance, the stronger the buff amplification.
Best Builds: Balanced Growth Build, Long-Term Stack Build Pick When: You have items spread across attack, defense, and speed categories Strengths: Steady improvement across all stats as the game progresses — versatile enough to handle any situation. No glaring weaknesses make this a reliable late-game powerhouse. Weaknesses: Takes time to reach high stat levels in all categories. Lacks the explosive one-dimensional burst of specialized subclasses.
Bard — Sustain and Support Build
Class Item: Bard Harp — Playing the harp restores HP, amplifies buff item effects, and gently reduces incoming debuffs.
Best Builds: Sustain Build, Buff Support Build Pick When: You have healing items and buff-applying items stocked up Strengths: Self-healing combined with support effects enables very long battles. Debuff mitigation strongly counters poison and curse-focused opponents. Weaknesses: Limited offensive power; vulnerable to fast aggressive builds. Underperforms without healing items.
Fedora — Buff Theft Build
Class Item: Stylish Hat — On attack, steals one buff from the enemy and applies it to yourself.
Best Builds: Buff Theft Build, High Attack Speed Build Pick When: Your attack rate is high and the meta features buff-heavy opponents Strengths: Simultaneous offense (weakening the enemy) and defense (strengthening yourself). More attacks means more stolen buffs, creating a snowball effect. Weaknesses: Limited value against opponents who don't use buffs. Some stolen buffs may have minimal utility.
Hammer Dagger — Stun Combo Chain Build
Class Item: Hammer Dagger Combo — After the hammer stuns the opponent, a rapid dagger follow-up triggers automatically. Dagger damage is increased while the target is stunned.
Best Builds: Stun Combo Build, Chain Attack Build Pick When: You have both hammer and dagger items assembled Strengths: Stun disrupts opponent action while guaranteed follow-up hits add bonus damage — resulting in high effective DPS. Attacking a stunned opponent eliminates counter-hit risk. Weaknesses: Requires both hammer and dagger items, consuming significant backpack space. Against stun-immune opponents, reverts to a normal combo.
Turtle — Defense and Spike Counter Build
Class Item: Turtle Shell — Grants very high defense, retaliating with spike damage each time you're hit. Spike damage scales with defense value.
Best Builds: Spike Defense Build, Tank Counter Build Pick When: You have defense and spike items assembled Strengths: Counter-attacks every time you're hit — devastating against melee-focused opponents. Simple yet powerful synergy: the higher your defense, the more spike damage you deal. Weaknesses: May not counter ranged or magical attacks. Low offensive pressure means fights can stall against opponents who don't attack frequently.
