Cost-3 named-trash card. "Name a card; trash matches in top 3" is a unique mechanic. Overpay extends this with topdeck management.
Rating B+. Cost 3 named-trash looks like a Chapel weaker, but Doctor's "trash from deck-top" angle still hits Estates/Coppers/Curses already shuffled in — Chapel needs them in hand.
Overpay is potent: per [1], peek and trash/discard/return. Pay 3 + Overpay 4 = 7 coin total to scan/sort 7 cards.
Overall B+. Solid early-thinning option on Doctor boards. When Chapel is also present, Chapel wins; Doctor backs up.
How to Play
Early, 3-coin opening for Doctor. Chapel beats it directly; Doctor secondary.
Mid-game, Overpay 5-6 for huge deck-scan/repair. One play sorts most of the deck.
End-game, Overpay during Province turns to clean residue. Trade off Province count vs. Overpay scope.
Naming Choice
Generally name "Curse", "Estate", or "Copper":
- Curse: Curse-spreader boards.
- Estate: Early opening to clear starter Estates.
- Copper: Mid-late once Silver/Gold dominate.
If reveal contains no matches, Doctor still effectively re-orders top 3 (pseudo-topdeck control).
Overpay Tactics
Per +[1], look at top card; trash/discard/return. Overpay 1 = pay 4 for 1 extra peek. Overpay 5 = pay 8 (vs. Province).
Use cases:
- Early: Overpay 1-2 for 1-2 cleanups.
- Mid: Overpay 3-4 for 4-5 scans.
- End: Surplus coin during Province turns.
Rate is +1 Coin per +1 trash candidate — not a stunning ratio vs. Provinces, but excellent for deck quality.
