Monster Train 2 Clan Tier List
Monster Train 2 features 12 clans, each with unique card pools and strategies. This guide rates each clan from S to D and explains their characteristics and synergies.
Note: Tier ratings are based on Covenant 20–25 high-level play. Beginners are encouraged to start with whichever clan appeals to them.
S Tier — Top Clans
Hellhorned
- Style: Aggressive offense
- Strengths: Imp token generation + Ragna synergy is powerful. Spike reflection damage provides both offense and defense
- Weaknesses: Almost no healing. Less stable in early game compared to other clans
- Best pairings: Awoken (durability), Stygian Guard (spell empowerment)
Stygian Guard
- Style: Spell combo
- Strengths: Spell chaining is extremely powerful. Artifacts like Inkwell enable exponential scaling
- Weaknesses: Weak early game until the deck direction becomes clear
- Best pairings: Hellhorned (damage), Umbra (card draw)
Awoken
- Style: Growth-based control
- Strengths: Spike + Thornd combination is dominant. Grows stronger as the game progresses
- Weaknesses: Rings 1–2 are the weakest. March management is challenging
- Best pairings: Hellhorned (immediate damage), Railforged (flexible unit placement)
A Tier — Strong Clans
Melting Remnant
- Style: Death trigger
- Strengths: On-death effects are powerful. Slime transformation combos are unique
- Weaknesses: Low output without the right combo pieces
- Best pairings: Stygian Guard (spell support), Luna Coven (buff support)
Umbra
- Style: Midrange draw
- Strengths: Strong card draw engine. High deck consistency
- Weaknesses: Damage output tends to fall short on its own
- Best pairings: Hellhorned (damage), Stygian Guard (spell synergy)
Luna Coven
- Style: Buff support
- Strengths: Powerful global buffs. Greatly boosts the team's scaling
- Weaknesses: Support-focused, so ally clan selection is critical
- Best pairings: Awoken, Railforged (scaling synergy)
Wurmkin
- Style: Economy control
- Strengths: Excellent Ember efficiency. Echo mechanic continuously upgrades cards
- Weaknesses: Limited standalone damage. High ally dependency
- Best pairings: Stygian Guard (spell synergy), Melting Remnant
B Tier — Solid Clans
Railforged
- Style: Unit placement optimization
- Strengths: Unique unit movement and placement combos. Exhaust mechanic builds are powerful
- Weaknesses: High learning curve due to unique mechanics
- Best pairings: Awoken (synergy), Luna Coven (buff support)
Pyreborne
- Style: Pyre empowerment
- Strengths: Unique strategy using the Pyre itself as an offensive weapon
- Weaknesses: Requires careful Pyre HP management; risky playstyle
- Best pairings: Hellhorned (damage), Stygian Guard
Banished
- Style: Banish mechanic
- Strengths: Powerful effects triggered by banishing cards. Enables resource management builds
- Weaknesses: Strategy falls apart if banish synergies don't come together
- Best pairings: Umbra (draw support), Stygian Guard
C Tier — Conditional Clans
Underlegion
- Style: Token swarm
- Strengths: Overwhelm opponents with massive amounts of token units
- Weaknesses: Individual tokens are weak and easily wiped by AoE
- Best pairings: Hellhorned (synergy), Luna Coven (buffs)
Lazarus League
- Style: Resurrection combo
- Strengths: Unit resurrection serves as a powerful combo enabler
- Weaknesses: Takes a long time to assemble resurrection synergies
- Best pairings: Melting Remnant (death synergy), Umbra (draw support)
