Effect and Mechanics
Shatter is the most punishing enemy debuff card — it temporarily disables (locks) specific cards in the player's deck. If it targets your finisher or a critical evolution material, the run can grind to a halt for several turns.
Targets may be random or skewed toward high-cost, high-impact cards. Locked cards become playable again after a set number of turns or when specific conditions are met.
Counters
Primary Shatter countermeasures:
- Backup plans: Prepare sub-strategies for when key cards are locked
- Unlock acceleration: Complete unlock conditions (turn-wait or specific actions) as fast as possible
- Deck distribution: Reduce single-card dependency to distribute Shatter targets
- Removal skills: Secure relics or skills that can purge Shatter cards from the deck
- Immediate play: When Shatter appears in hand, play it immediately to start the lock timer early
Especially Dangerous Scenarios
- Finisher locked (Vandalier, Phieraggi, etc.)
- Evolution material locked, delaying triple fusion (especially Phieraggi's three-card fusion)
- Multiple Shatters targeting different key cards simultaneously
Shatter does direct, acute run damage compared to Junk or Muddle. The most durable counter is distributed deck design that avoids total reliance on any single card — a Shatter on one card should never end the run outright.
