Effect and Behavior
Tyrfing is a sword weapon with a boomerang flight path — it travels outward to its maximum range and then returns to the player along the same trajectory. Named after Tyrfing, the cursed sword of Norse mythology, the weapon can hit enemies twice per throw: once on the way out and again on the way back.
Tyrfing also has a critical damage mechanic: each hit has a chance to deal significantly higher damage than the base value. Critical hits scale with Might, so high-Might builds produce enormous burst damage when crits fire.
Speed controls how fast the boomerang travels (increasing effective attack frequency by shortening the round trip), Area expands the hitbox width, and Might scales both base and critical damage. Spinach provides Might +1 and is the evolution material — combining damage enhancement with evolution preparation in a single slot.
Evolution Path
Hold Spinach, max Tyrfing, then open a chest after 10:00 to evolve.

Strengths
Two hit opportunities per throw is the core efficiency advantage — enemies in the direct path take damage both outbound and inbound. Against densely packed groups, a single throw can hit multiple enemies in both directions. Critical hits are unreliable but produce disproportionate damage against high-HP single targets when they proc in a high-Might build. The 20,000 damage unlock threshold is reachable in an early run with minimal effort.
Weaknesses
The straight boomerang trajectory is predictable and can be escaped by fast enemies that move away from the return path. Low Amount in early runs limits coverage to a single arc. Critical damage is probability-based, making DPS calculations inconsistent. Spinach — the most generally useful passive in the game — is consumed as the evolution material, which can feel constraining when other Might sources are limited.
Recommended Characters
| Character | Reason |
|---|---|
| Antonio Belpaese | Might bonus dramatically amplifies critical hit damage |
| Any character after unlocking | Low threshold means it's available to any character quickly |
| High Speed characters | Faster boomerang return increases effective throws per minute |
Recommended Passives
| Passive | Reason |
|---|---|
| Spinach | Evolution material and Might +1 |
| Candelabrador | Area increase widens the boomerang hitbox |
| Bracer | Speed increase shortens round-trip time, increasing frequency |
| Hollow Heart | MaxHP increase for general survivability |
Good Arcana Pairings
| Arcana | Effect |
|---|---|
| XIII - Rota Fortunae | Damage multiplier amplifies critical hit impact dramatically |
| III - Virtus Aeterna | Synergy bonus when multiple weapons are active |
Gameplay Tips
Maximize the round-trip double-hit by throwing toward the densest enemy cluster on screen. Moving laterally while the boomerang is in flight can angle the return path through different enemy groups, effectively covering a wider swath. Secure Spinach early — it directly raises Might, which scales both normal and critical damage. Stack Speed to shorten round-trip time and generate more throws per minute, increasing critical proc opportunities. Hold Spinach through to evolution at 10:00; the Might bonus is most valuable in those final minutes before the chest.
FAQ
Q. Does the boomerang really hit twice? A. Yes — on the outbound path and again on the return. Enemies directly in the trajectory take damage both ways, making dense straight-line formations ideal targets.
Q. How often do critical hits happen? A. Proc rate varies by character stats and Arcana effects. Might increases the damage multiplier when a crit fires, not necessarily the frequency.
Q. Should I always prioritize Spinach? A. It doubles as evolution material and a Might boost, so yes — pick it up immediately when it appears. It's the most competed-for passive in the game, so grab it before other players in co-op modes.
