Understanding the Build Framework

Every strong Magicraft build shares the same underlying structure:

  1. Core Spells: The damage engine of your build. These are the spells you fire most frequently and that generate the majority of your damage output.
  2. Support Spells: Spells that amplify, extend, or complement your core spells. Examples include area expansion, attack speed boosts, and effect duration extensions.
  3. Relics: Equipped items that provide passive bonuses. Prioritize relics that directly synergize with your core spells, as synergistic combinations multiply in value rather than simply adding together.

How to Assemble a Build

  1. Identify your first strong core spell in the opening shop, and commit to a general direction
  2. Collect support spells that reinforce that direction as you progress through rooms
  3. Use merchant encounters before boss fights to fill gaps in your build with targeted relic purchases
  4. If the build feels broken, pivot early — see the recovery section below

Key Concepts Across All Builds

  • Mana efficiency matters: Low-cost spell loops are one of Magicraft's foundational strategies. A spell cast twice for the same mana investment outperforms one cast of a more expensive alternative.
  • Scaling types: Poison, AoE, and Coin builds all scale multiplicatively in the late game. Early weakness is an acceptable trade-off for explosive late-game power.
  • Relic synergy is non-obvious: A relic that appears weak in isolation may become game-defining when paired with the right spell combination.

Beginner Builds

Build 1: Magic Bullet (Basic Projectile Build)

Difficulty: Easy | Recommended For: First 1–3 runs

The most straightforward build in the game. Centers on Magic Bullet (魔弾), the baseline projectile spell, supplemented by spread and penetration upgrades.

Core Spells:

  • Magic Bullet (魔弾) — primary damage; hit targets receive increased incoming damage debuff
  • Rainbow (レインボー) — 7-way spread clears mob groups without individual targeting
  • Collapse Beam (コラプスビーム) — continuous-cast penetrating laser; pairs well with Talisman of Focus

Core Relics (priority order):

  1. Savage Fang (野獣の牙) — unconditional +20% all damage; take whenever available
  2. Talisman of Focus (集中のお守り) — up to 60% cast interval reduction while stationary; 1.6× effective DPS
  3. Replica Gloves (コピーグローブ) — 25% spell duplication; applies to every spell in the loadout

Progression route (Early / Mid / Late):

  • Early (Stages 1–2): Secure Magic Bullet as core. Take Savage Fang as first relic priority
  • Mid (Stages 3–4): Add Talisman of Focus and establish wall-hugging stationary fire positions. Add Collapse Beam for penetration
  • Late (Stages 5+): Replica Gloves creates a 25% chance duplication on every spell, compounding all prior DPS multipliers

Nightmare Tips: Magic Bullet's raw damage ceiling is limited in Nightmare. Consider transitioning to Prospector's Pickaxe (採掘者のつるはし) coin scaling once it appears.

Weaknesses: Late-game scaling is limited. Requires supplemental relics to compete at high difficulties.

Build 2: Light Summoner (Wand Spirit Lite)

Difficulty: Medium | Recommended For: Players comfortable with the basics

A semi-automated build deploying 1–2 Wand Spirits as autonomous turrets while the player focuses on evasion.

Core Spells:

  • Wand Spirit — top priority; acquire as early as possible
  • Black Hole (ブラックホール) — clusters enemies to increase Guardian hit rate
  • Secondary direct-fire spell for gap coverage

Core Relics (priority order):

  1. Merlin's Beard (マーリンの髭) — summon limit ×2; enables 2–4 simultaneous Guardians
  2. Merlin's Hat (マーリンの帽子) — Max MP +30; covers Guardian maintenance MP cost
  3. Merlin's Robe (マーリンのローブ) — MP regen +2/s; sustains continuous multi-Guardian deployment

Progression route:

  • Early: Secure one Wand Spirit. Acquire Merlin's Hat as first relic
  • Mid: Merlin's Beard doubles Guardian count. Black Hole improves targeting efficiency
  • Late: Mirror of Vision (神秘の鏡) — if found, take immediately. Auto-equips Wand Spirit+ to all wands; player transitions to pure evasion role

Nightmare Tips: Full Merlin's Series + Mirror of Vision is the peak form of this build in Nightmare. Add Merlin's Boots (マーリンのブーツ) (+4 MP on kill) for in-combat MP refill.

Weaknesses: Weak before the first Guardian is established. Fragile against multi-directional enemy spawns.

Intermediate Builds

Build 3: Poison Stack

Difficulty: Medium | Recommended For: Intermediate to advanced players

Stacks poison as rapidly as possible and relies on the linear scaling of poison damage to eliminate all opposition. One of the most consistent late-game builds.

Core Spells:

  • Floating Wisp (ゴーストファイア) — poison projectile that attracts nearby wisps on hit; self-amplifying
  • Shadow Serpent (ヘルスネーク) — homing serpent that applies high poison stacks at high level
  • High-rate fire wand to maximize poison applications per second

Core Relics (priority order):

  1. Reaper (リーパー) — poison stack count ×2; the single most impactful relic for this build
  2. Savage Fang (野獣の牙) — all damage +20%; amplifies poison tick damage
  3. Replica Gloves (コピーグローブ) — duplicates poison projectiles, effectively doubling stack rate

Progression route:

  • Early: Secure Floating Wisp. Look for Reaper in relic rooms — it is the core multiplier
  • Mid: Add Shadow Serpent for multi-vector poison application. Stacks above 100 begin noticeable scaling
  • Late: Reaper + Replica Gloves together produce effective ×4 stack accumulation rate. Most bosses start taking thousands of damage per second from poison alone

Nightmare Tips: Poison ramp-up may not keep pace with Nightmare boss HP. Supplement with burst damage (Black Hole, Arcane Explosion) to handle the critical phase before stacks reach full strength.

Weaknesses: Weak during ramp-up phase. Requires simultaneous evasion and poison application.

Build 4: AoE Orbit Build

Difficulty: Medium | Recommended For: Intermediate players

Orbit spells + Poison Orb + Area Expansion + Black Hole (ブラックホール) creates a unified strategy for both mob clearing and boss fights.

Core Spells:

  • Black Hole (ブラックホール) — clusters all enemies into a central point; the build's foundation, acquire first
  • Orbit spells — projectiles rotating around the player continuously hit clustered enemies
  • Floating Wisp (ゴーストファイア) — applies poison to clustered enemies within AoE range
  • Arcane Explosion (アーケインエクスプロージョン) — triggers on kill; chains mob clearings together

Core Relics (priority order):

  1. Replica Gloves (コピーグローブ) — AoE spell duplication multiplies range damage by 1.25× on average
  2. Savage Fang (野獣の牙) — all damage +20%
  3. Reaper (リーパー) — if running hybrid Poison/AoE, doubles poison stacks from Orbit hits

Progression route:

  • Early: Black Hole is non-negotiable. Without it, pivot to another build immediately
  • Mid: Add Orbit spell and Floating Wisp. Establish the cluster → AoE loop as primary combat pattern
  • Late: Replica Gloves ensures that clustered enemies inside Black Hole take simultaneous hits from duplicated AoE spells

Nightmare Tips: Always keep Black Hole angled to push bosses into corners rather than toward the player. For single-target bosses, Orbit hits compound when the player circles at the edge of the orbit radius.

Weaknesses: Entirely dependent on Black Hole. Underperforms significantly without it.

Advanced Builds

Build 5: Coin Exploit Build

Prospector's Pickaxe Prospector's Vest

Difficulty: Hard | Recommended For: Advanced players

Uses Prospector's Pickaxe (採掘者のつるはし) + Prospector's Vest (採掘者の布鎧) relic synergy. At 3,500+ coins, damage output exceeds 2000% — the highest damage ceiling in the game.

Required Relics (both mandatory):

  • Prospector's Pickaxe (採掘者のつるはし) — +1% all damage per 3 coins held. Scales without limit
  • Prospector's Vest (採掘者の布鎧) — restores HP equal to coins picked up; solves healing without dedicated spells

Recommended supporting relics:

  • Prospector's Goblet (採掘者のトロフィー) — +5% of current coins on each door transition (cap 10); compounding coin income
  • Merchant's Bauble (商人の宝珠) — guarantees a special room on every shop visit; more coin-spending opportunities
  • Prospector's Gloves (採掘者のグローブ) — 8% coin drop on kill; minor but continuous income supplement

Build assembly sequence:

  1. Acquire Prospector's Pickaxe first — without it the build is impossible; abandon the concept if it doesn't appear by Stage 2
  2. Secure Prospector's Vest to complete the damage/healing dual-loop
  3. Add Prospector's Goblet for door-transition compound interest
  4. Functional at 1,000 coins; dominant at 3,500+

Cross-build synergy: Pickaxe's % damage bonus applies to all spell types. Running this alongside Poison Stack or AoE Orbit simultaneously is viable — both contribute to and benefit from the coin scaling.

Nightmare Tips: The Pickaxe + Vest combination is the primary Nightmare strategy. Start building defense (Soulbone Mantle, Treant Series) during the pre-1,000 coin fragile phase to survive until the scaling kicks in.

Weaknesses: Completely non-functional without Prospector's Pickaxe. Most vulnerable build during assembly.

Build 6: Shadow Serpent + Wand Spirit Full-Auto

Shadow Serpent Wand Spirit

Difficulty: Hard | Recommended For: Advanced players

High-level Shadow Serpent (ヘルスネーク) combined with multiple Wand Spirits and the full Merlin's Series creates a fully automated damage machine. The player's only active role is evasion.

Core Spells:

  • Shadow Serpent (ヘルスネーク) — homing spectral snake; scales explosively at high levels; high hit rate due to serpentine movement
  • Wand Spirit ×2–3 — automated attack turrets; Mirror of Vision auto-equips these to all wands
  • Duration Extension — keeps snakes and guardians active longer, reducing re-cast frequency

Core Relics (priority order):

  1. Mirror of Vision (神秘の鏡) — auto Wand Spirit+ on all wands, wand slot +1, permanent flight. Complete build transformation on pickup
  2. Merlin's Beard (マーリンの髭) — summon limit ×2; enables 4+ simultaneous Shadow Serpents and Guardians
  3. Merlin's Hat (マーリンの帽子) — Max MP +30; offsets multi-summon MP drain
  4. Merlin's Robe (マーリンのローブ) — MP regen +2/s; sustains continuous deployment
  5. Merlin's Boots (マーリンのブーツ) — +4 MP on kill; near-infinite MP in combat

Progression route:

  • Early: Secure Shadow Serpent. Merlin's Hat as first relic choice
  • Mid: Merlin's Beard doubles simultaneous summon count. Merlin's Robe stabilizes MP
  • Late: Mirror of Vision transforms the build into full-auto. Player dedicates 100% attention to dodging

Cross-build synergy: Shadow Serpent's homing behavior applies poison on hit. Running Reaper (リーパー) alongside doubles the poison stacks from every serpent hit, creating a "full-auto + poison" hybrid.

Nightmare Tips: Full Merlin's Series + Mirror of Vision is the most consistent Nightmare strategy. Position summons optimally before each boss fight — Guardian placement determines whether the boss takes continuous fire or sporadic hits.

Weaknesses: High MP cost for summon maintenance; sudden collapse if MP runs out. Low-level Shadow Serpent makes early-game difficult.

Build Selection by Difficulty

Normal (First Clear)

Choose Magic Bullet or Light Summoner. Both offer clean, readable strategies. Prioritize Savage Fang and Replica Gloves as damage relics; hold one or two relic slots for HP recovery (Prospector's Vest, Treant Robe).

Recommended: Magic Bullet — simplest execution path

Hard Difficulty

Transition to Poison Stack or AoE Orbit. Scaling becomes critical; commit to your direction in Area 1 and invest every relic choice consistently. Actively pursue no-damage bonus clears on elite bosses — the Epic/Unique relics from hidden rooms accelerate the build significantly.

Recommended: AoE Orbit — balanced performance in rooms and boss fights

Nightmare Difficulty

Coin Exploit or Shadow Serpent + Wand Spirit (with Mirror of Vision + Merlin's Series) are the primary viable options. Both provide the scaling to match Nightmare HP inflation. The skill challenge is surviving the build assembly phase.

  • Coin Exploit: Acquire Prospector's Pickaxe by Stage 2 or abandon. Use Soulbone Mantle + Treant Series for defense during the coin ramp
  • Guardian build: Seek Mirror of Vision throughout. Once found, complete Merlin's Series and the build runs itself

Recommended: Coin Exploit — highest damage ceiling, best matched to Nightmare HP inflation

Recovering a Broken Build

Not every run delivers ideal spells and relics. When the plan falls apart:

Step 1: Assess current assets

Stop fixating on your target build. Ask: "Of the spells I currently hold, what combination produces the highest damage right now?" Accept the answer even if it diverges from the plan.

Step 2: Decide when to pivot

  • Early (Areas 1–2): Fewer than two core spells found → pivot immediately; no sunk cost
  • Mid (Areas 3–4): Scaling isn't working → switch to highest-damage current spells regardless of build identity
  • Late (Area 5+): Near-complete builds are high-risk to overhaul; supplement incrementally

Step 3: Maintain fallback compositions

Two universal stopgap options:

  • Poison + Rapid Fire (Floating Wisp + Rainbow): Spamming poison projectiles at high speed works against most enemies at any stage
  • Black Hole + strong single-target spell: Cluster → unload; works regardless of what the primary build was

Step 4: Re-evaluate relics

Relics not contributing to current damage output should be sold at the next merchant. General-purpose relics (Savage Fang, Replica Gloves, Prospector's Pickaxe) outperform highly specific synergy relics in broken-build scenarios.

Summary

The core discipline in Magicraft builds is early commitment: identify your damage engine in the first two areas and route every subsequent relic and spell choice through it. Start with Magic Bullet or Light Summoner to learn game rhythm. Graduate to Poison Stack or AoE Orbit for Hard difficulty scaling. For Nightmare, Coin Exploit (Prospector's Pickaxe + Vest) or the Mirror of Vision Guardian build are the two proven paths. When a build breaks — and it will — the ability to salvage and redirect is often more decisive than any individual spell or relic.
