After playing a defense card, deal damage equal to your current accumulated armor value to the front-row enemy.

Shield Bash is a powerful arcana that bridges the gap between defense and offense. Normally, armor cards serve only to absorb incoming damage, but with Shield Bash equipped, every point of armor you have built up becomes a source of burst damage aimed at the front-row enemy.

The arcana synergizes best with high-cost armor cards such as Golden Defense and Rainbow Defense. A single play of one of these cards can instantly pile on dozens of armor points, triggering a Shield Bash hit of equal magnitude. Crawlers with passive HP regeneration like Cleric pair especially well, since they can afford to spend resources on armor without worrying as much about taking chip damage.

The combination with Your Shield My Liege is particularly devastating. Armor carried over from the previous turn stacks on top of any new armor you generate, so each Shield Bash hit grows larger the longer the run goes on.

Shield Bash does nothing if you never play a defense card, so include at least three or four armor cards in your deck. Try to play your armor cards in an order that maximizes accumulated armor before the hit lands — for example, stack smaller armor cards first and save a big armor card to trigger the damage when your total is highest.
