Effect and Behavior
A hybrid weapon that fires a frontal attack while having a chance to apply the Defang debuff to enemies it hits, and also retaliates automatically whenever the player takes incoming damage. Defang lowers the affected enemy's effective Might — reducing the damage it deals — which indirectly reduces the incoming damage the player suffers per hit. The retaliation fires a counter-hit toward the attacker each time the player takes damage.
Unlocked by achieving a specific condition in the Nozio (農協) stage. Parmigiano is the evolution material.
Evolution Conditions
Max Gaze of Gaea (Lv 8), carry Parmigiano, and open an elite-drop chest after 10:00 to evolve. The post-evolution weapon name is currently unconfirmed.
Strengths
- Defang lowers enemy Might — reduces incoming damage indirectly, improving survivability beyond what the weapon's raw damage numbers suggest
- Retaliation converts incoming hits into counter-damage — creates a defensive-offense loop where tanking hits has offensive value
- Frontal attack combined with Defang debuff softens high-durability enemies in the approach direction
- Pairs naturally with close-range aura weapons that benefit from weakened nearby enemies
Weaknesses
- Unlock requires a specific Nozio stage condition — not immediately available
- Frontal-only attack provides no side or rear coverage
- Defang is probabilistic — debuff application is not guaranteed on every hit
- Evolution destination currently unknown
Recommended Characters
- Close-range tank characters that absorb frequent hits: higher incoming hit frequency triggers more retaliation damage
- High-max-HP characters: can afford to absorb hits safely to fuel the retaliation mechanic while Defang reduces per-hit damage
- Characters who frequently run the Nozio stage: natural fit post-unlock
Recommended Passives
- Parmigiano: mandatory for evolution (top priority)
- Spinach: +10% Might raises both frontal attack and retaliation damage simultaneously
- Hollow Heart: max HP buffer enables sustained hit-tanking for maximum retaliation trigger rate
- Armor: damage reduction compounds with Defang's Might reduction for layered incoming damage reduction
Synergistic Arcanas
- XXI Chaos in the Dark Night: max HP bonus expands the buffer for safely triggering retaliation
- IX Divine Bloodline: crit compounding on frontal hits and retaliation raises DPS
Strategy and Tips
- Early (0–10 min): Level Gaze of Gaea and secure Parmigiano. Run toward enemies to use the frontal attack with Defang chance — weakened enemies deal less damage, partially compensating for the HP tanking the retaliation build requires.
- Mid (10–20 min): Carry Parmigiano and push to Lv8 for evolution. Stack Hollow Heart and Armor to sustain the hit-tanking cycle. Defang-weakened enemies paired with retaliation creates a loop where absorbing damage both reduces future incoming hits and deals counter-damage.
- Late (20+ min): With Defang consistently reducing enemy Might and retaliation firing on every hit received, the weapon operates as a dual-function defensive-offense tool. Spinach raises per-hit output across both attack modes.
FAQ
Q: How do I unlock Gaze of Gaea?
A: Achieve the specific unlock condition in the Nozio (農協) stage. After completing it, Gaze of Gaea becomes available in runs.
Q: What does Defang do?
A: Defang lowers the affected enemy's Might stat — reducing the damage that enemy deals to the player. Applied to dense enemy clusters, it creates a zone of weakened attackers whose incoming damage is lower than it would otherwise be.
Q: When does retaliation fire?
A: Retaliation triggers automatically whenever the player takes incoming damage from an enemy. Even with Armor reducing the damage amount, the hit event itself triggers retaliation — damage reduction does not suppress the counter-hit.
