Necrobinder

[STS2] Necrobinder Strategy Guide

Necrobinder Overview

Necrobinder is one of the new characters added in Slay the Spire 2. The kit is built around a unique playstyle that stacks Doom counters on enemies to trigger lethal effects, alongside a skeletal ally called Osti.

  • Signature mechanic: Osti (a skeletal companion) acts automatically each turn
  • Strongest tactics: Doom counter stacking, combos driven by Soul cards, Exhaust synergy
  • Weaknesses: handling enemies that resist Doom, and managing Ethereal cards

Core Mechanics

Doom System

Doom is Necrobinder's signature mechanic. You stack Doom counters on enemies and trigger lethal effects once the count reaches the threshold.

  • Apply Doom to enemies with Doom-stacking cards
  • Detonate with Nowhere to Run to fire an AoE lethal check
  • Bosses and elites have lethal resistance, so you must grind them down through raw Doom damage

Osti

Osti is Necrobinder's companion. Osti acts automatically every turn, handling both offense and defense.

  • Relics such as the Bone Flute scale Osti's attacks
  • Osti fills the gaps left by your main cards
  • When Necrobinder enters Reaper form, Osti gains access to special effects

Soul Deck

Specific cards (Spirit Split, Burial, etc.) add Souls to your deck — a specialized subdeck you draw from and play during combat.

  • Most Soul cards are 0-cost with powerful effects
  • Combined with the Death Mask relic, you draw them reliably every turn

Recommended Cards

S Tier (top priority picks)

  • Reaper Form: Turns Osti into "Reaper mode" and unlocks strong secondary effects. A game-changing state shift
  • Nowhere to Run: Triggers an AoE Doom lethal check. The finisher for any Doom build
  • Doom Stack: Applies Doom to every enemy. Sweeps Weak enemies off the board
  • Shadow Cloak: Generates Block automatically each turn. A huge stability boost on defense

A Tier (strong)

  • Neurosurge: A Power that randomly upgrades cards in your deck. Taking it early gives your deck long-term stability
  • Spirit Split: Adds Souls to your deck. The core of the Soul Deck build
  • Day of Reckoning: Adds an extra lethal check to enemies already loaded with Doom. Use it as part of a combo
  • Storm of Destruction: AoE attack that also applies Doom. Makes multi-enemy encounters much easier

Deck-Building Direction

Doom Build (recommended)

Stack Doom on enemies and lethal them. The flagship Necrobinder plan.

  1. Early: Collect Doom-stacking cards while Osti's auto attacks chip away at HP
  2. Mid: Pick up Nowhere to Run to lock in your Doom finisher. Adding Day of Reckoning on top is very strong
  3. Late: Generate Block automatically with Shadow Cloak, then stack Doom each turn to clear the board

Soul Deck Build

A combo build that spams the 0-cost effects of Soul cards.

  1. Concept: Spirit Split and Burial flood your deck with Souls, chaining their powerful 0-cost effects
  2. Key cards: Death Mask relic plus Soul-generating cards
  3. Caveat: Without a steady source of Souls, you lose tempo every time a turn rolls over

Play Tips by Act

Act 1

  • Let Osti's auto attacks carry damage while you collect Doom cards
  • Picking up the Bone Flute dramatically increases Osti's damage output
  • Remove unnecessary Strikes early

Act 2

  • Ethereal cards Exhaust at end of turn, so plan ahead to spend them
  • Keep a plan for Doom-resistant enemies by carrying normal attacks
  • Time Reaper Form carefully to match the combat's state shift

Act 3

  • With the build complete, Doom stacking each turn plus Nowhere to Run clears encounters
  • Thin the deck so you draw your key cards reliably
  • Mind relic synergies when choosing Rest vs. Shop

Boss Strategy

  • Doom Build: Elites and bosses resist the lethal effect, so grind them with raw Doom damage and use Nowhere to Run for efficiency
  • Soul Deck Build: Spam 0-cost Soul cards for a huge action count, and combine with Osti for big damage
  • Shared: Shadow Cloak handles your Block automatically, freeing your main character to Focus on card efficiency
