Rating & Analysis
Cartomancer turns "selecting a Blind" — an event that fires three times every Ante (Small, Big, Boss) — into a free Tarot pipeline. That alone yields three Tarots per Ante before any shop or voucher purchase, and the supply scales further with Tarot Merchant or Charm Tags. The generated Tarots are not just enhancement fuel (Glass / Steel / Mult) — they directly feed scaling Jokers like Fortune Teller and Constellation.
The strongest pairing is Perkeo: Cartomancer produces a Tarot, Perkeo turns it Negative on shop exit, and you accumulate a permanent Tarot library that doesn't cost a slot. On the Magic Deck (two Fools + Crystal Ball at start), Cartomancer plus The Fool creates a perpetual loop — use The Fool, Cartomancer refills, use it again. Combined with Fortune Teller's "+1 Mult per Tarot used," Cartomancer becomes one of the most reliable mid-game scoring axes in the game.
Rating by Deck
| Deck | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Magic Deck | S+ | Two Fools + Crystal Ball at start. The build is complete the moment you draft Cartomancer. |
| Zodiac Deck | S+ | Starts with Tarot Merchant + Planet Merchant + Overstock — the apex of Tarot economy. |
| Red / Blue Deck | S | Standard pick. At only $6 you can secure it by Ante 3. |
| Ghost Deck | S | High Soul drop rate plus Perkeo equals the ultimate Tarot economy. |
| Nebula Deck | A+ | Telescope start drives a Planet plan, and Planet packs still drop Tarots for Cartomancer. |
Good Joker Synergies
| Joker | Why |
|---|---|
| Perkeo | Cartomancer's Tarots become Negative copies — slot-free, permanent Tarot library. |
| Fortune Teller | +1 Mult per Tarot used. Cartomancer drives the scaling all on its own. |
| Constellation | Planet/Tarot rhythms align — both builds extend in parallel. |
| Blueprint / Brainstorm | Copies Cartomancer itself — two Tarots per Blind selection. |
| Cartomancer × 2 (via Showman / Soul) | Two or three Tarots per Blind once you can run a second copy. |
| Astronomer | Free Planet packs widen the consumable pipeline beyond Tarots alone. |
Synergy Vouchers, Editions & Tags
| Type | Example | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Voucher | Tarot Merchant → Tarot Tycoon | Multiplies shop Tarot appearances, stacking with Cartomancer's output. |
| Voucher | Crystal Ball → Omen Globe | +1/+1 consumable slots — keeps Cartomancer's trigger from being wasted. |
| Tag | Charm Tag | Skip-Blind reward Tarot Pack — doubles up on Tarot supply. |
| Edition | Negative (on Cartomancer) | Frees up the Joker slot Cartomancer would normally occupy. |
Tips & Usage
- The core rule: keep at least one consumable slot empty when selecting a Blind. If the slot is full the Tarot is lost — there is no overflow or replacement.
- Prioritize slot expansion early: Negative Tags, Tarot Merchant, Omen Globe, Ectoplasm, and Antimatter all add room.
- Place Blueprint immediately to the right of Cartomancer to copy its effect — that yields two Tarots per Blind selection.
- Pairing with Perkeo: do NOT spend strong Tarots (Black Hole, Soul, Fool) inside the shop — carry them out so Perkeo can Negative-copy them on exit.
- At only $6, Cartomancer is cheap enough to grab in Ante 1–2. The earlier you pick it up, the more 3-trigger Antes compound the Tarot supply.
Caveats
- Selecting the Boss Blind also counts as a "Blind selection," so each Ante triggers Cartomancer three times in total.
- A full consumable slot completely skips generation (no card gets pushed out to make room).
- Eternal Cartomancer is unsellable but extremely valuable — the downside is negligible. Avoid Perishable, since the timer can kill the build.
- Cartomancer still occupies a Joker slot. Until you have slot expansion online, weigh it against your other Joker picks early on.
