[Dominion] Counterfeit Card Guide - Treasure Trash + Buy
Rating of Counterfeit (Dark Ages). Cost 5 Treasure. $1 +1 Buy, play a Treasure twice and trash it.
Counterfeit
Basic Info
- Type: Treasure
- Cost: 5
- Effect: $1, +1 Buy, you may play a Treasure from your hand twice. Trash it.
Rating
Treasure-form Trash-for-Benefit. As a 5-cost Treasure it underperforms Gold raw, but Counterfeit + Copper = $2 + trash, + Silver = $4 + trash, + Gold = $6 + trash. The trash compensation makes it powerful on Copper-heavy or low-trashing boards. A-tier.
How to Play
Opening: $5 Counterfeit fits Big Money / coin-heavy boards. Less natural for engines.
Midgame: Use Counterfeit on Copper for $2 + thinning. 3-4 Coppers gone over a few turns.
Endgame: Counterfeit a Gold for $6 + 1 Buy + decisive Province. One-shot but huge.
Key Combos
- Spoils: Counterfeit a Spoils → played 2× and trashed (Spoils returns to its pile).
- Peddler: Trash Coppers via Counterfeit → cheaper Peddler.
- Throne Room + Counterfeit: 3 plays of same Treasure + trash.
- Gardens: +1 Buy synergy.
Synergies
- Silver / Gold: Trash for $4/$6.
- Spoils: Reusable Counterfeit fuel.
- Peddler: Copper thinning.
- Throne family: Multi-Counterfeit.
- Gardens: Mass-buy synergy.
Counters & Bad Matchups
- Chapel: Trash redundancy.
- Treasure-thin decks: No targets.
- Pure engine boards: Treasure slot wasted.
- Tokens / costly Treasures: Limited application.
Advanced Tips
Even without trashing, Counterfeit is a $1 + Buy Silver-ish. Buys are scarce on some boards.
Trash target sequencing: Coppers early, Silvers mid, Gold late. Misread = no $.
King's Court + Counterfeit + Gold = 6 plays of Gold + trash = $18 + 3 Buys. Endgame finisher.
