Attack Pattern
The Waterfall Giant applies Steam Eruption to itself at the start of the fight. This buff accumulates each turn and triggers as an explosion of damage the instant the Giant is killed — a "death burst" that can be lethal if the fight drags on.
| Turn | Action |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Steam Eruption (Buff) — Adds Steam Eruption stacks to itself; these stacks deal damage to the player when the Giant dies |
| Turn 2 | Attack + Weak debuff + Strength gain — Deals damage, applies Weak to the player, and gains Strength |
| Turn 3 | Heavy Attack — Large single-target hit (now amplified by Strength) |
| Turn 4 | More Steam Eruption stacks + Attack — Stacks additional Steam Eruption charges, further increasing the death burst |
| Onwards | Continues accumulating Steam Eruption stacks while attacking |
On kill — The accumulated Steam Eruption stacks deal a burst of damage to the player. The longer the fight lasts, the more devastating the explosion.
Strategy
- Kill as fast as possible — Steam Eruption stacks grow each turn. Every additional turn you don't kill it increases the death burst damage. Prolonging the fight is the worst possible strategy.
- Maximize Block on the kill turn — Before landing the final hit, stack as much Block as possible. The death burst damage can be mitigated by Block, and this is the single most critical defensive moment of the fight.
- Respect the Turn 3 heavy hit — After gaining Strength on Turn 2, the Turn 3 attack deals its highest damage. Build sufficient Block before Turn 2 ends to handle the Turn 3 spike.
- Weak reduces your outgoing damage too — The Weak debuff applied on Turn 2 reduces your attack card damage output. Factor this into your card sequencing if you plan offensive plays after receiving Weak.
Recommended Counters
- Use a burst damage deck to end the fight quickly and minimize Steam Eruption accumulation
- Hold Block-heavy cards or Block potions specifically for the kill turn to absorb the death explosion
- Plan your kill turn carefully: stack maximum Block first, then deliver the killing blow
- Prepare Block before Turn 3 to handle the Strength-amplified heavy attack
- Apply Weak to the Giant to reduce the Turn 3 damage and overall attack scaling
