Frost Orb Build

フロストオーブビルド

Defect Frost Orb Build

Overview

Frost Orbs generate 2 + Focus Block on their passive trigger each turn. Fill all Orb slots with Frost and stack Focus to generate enormous Block automatically — with Focus 5 and three Frost Orbs you gain 21 Block every turn without playing a single defensive card. The build is one of the most durable in the game once online, effectively negating most incoming damage through sheer passive Block generation. The main challenge is surviving the early game while the engine comes together.

Key Cards

  • Coolheaded: Channel 1 Frost and draw 1 card — the bread-and-butter Frost generator. Efficient and refills hand simultaneously.
  • Glacier: Gain 6 Block and channel 2 Frost — both immediate defense and Orb slot filling in one card. High priority.
  • Chill: Channel 1 Frost per enemy — against 3-enemy encounters, fills 3 slots at once. Extremely efficient at cost of Exhausting.
  • Defragment: Gain 1 Focus — each point directly increases Block output from every Frost Orb. Stack as many as possible.
  • Biased Cognition: Gain 4 Focus immediately — a massive spike in Block generation. Best used when you can end fights quickly before Focus decays.
  • Loop: Trigger rightmost Orb passive at turn start — if rightmost is Frost, this is a free extra Block every turn.
  • Capacitor: Gain 2 Orb Slots — more Frost Orbs means more passive Block per turn. Critical for maximizing output.
  • Dualcast: Evoke rightmost Frost Orb twice — generates double Block on demand for emergencies.
  • Hailstorm: At end of turn, if you have Frost Orbs, deal 6 damage to all enemies — converts your defensive Orbs into passive offense. Excellent pairing.

Key Relics

  • Data Disk: Start each combat with 1 Focus — each Frost Orb generates 1 extra Block per turn from the very first turn.
  • Gold-Plated Cables: Rightmost Orb triggers passive an additional time — with Frost in the rightmost slot, this doubles Block from that one slot each turn.
  • Emotion Chip: All Orb passives trigger at turn start when you took damage — burst of Block from all Frost Orbs simultaneously.
  • Infused Core: Start combat with 3 Lightning channeled — these Lightning Orbs are somewhat off-theme, but they provide passive damage to offset the build's low offense.

Strategy

  1. Prioritize Focus investment above everything else — Defragment should be taken every time it is offered in Act 1 and 2.
  2. Channel Frost Orbs as fast as possible using Coolheaded and Glacier to establish passive Block income by turn 2-3.
  3. Use Chill against multi-enemy rooms to fill all slots instantly; save it for encounters with 3+ enemies.
  4. Once Focus reaches 3+, Frost Orbs generate 15+ Block per turn across three slots — shift all remaining card picks toward draw and offense.
  5. Add Hailstorm as a damage outlet — without it, the build can stall against high-HP bosses.
  6. In boss fights, use Dualcast on Frost for emergency Block spikes when enemy buffs or big attacks are incoming.

Pick Priority

  • Must pick: Defragment, Coolheaded, Glacier
  • High priority: Capacitor, Loop, Chill, Hailstorm
  • Situational: Biased Cognition (fast fights only), Dualcast (defensive burst option)
  • Skip: Offensive Orb cards that dilute Frost slot count; avoid filling slots with Lightning or Dark unless you have excess capacity

Tips

  • Focus is the true damage stat for this build — prioritize it even over channeling more Frost early on, since 3 Frost Orbs at Focus 0 only generate 6 Block per turn.
  • Loop + Gold-Plated Cables on the rightmost Frost Orb means that slot triggers its passive three times per turn total — 3 × (2 + Focus) Block from one slot alone.
  • Hailstorm solves the build's primary weakness: lack of offense. Without it you must rely on attack cards, which may not be enough against high-HP bosses.
  • Biased Cognition pairs well with quick kills — if you can end a fight in 4 turns, the Focus gain before decay is enormous. Avoid it in long boss fights.
  • Against enemies that apply Vulnerable or Weak, your passive Block still applies normally — you do not need to modify the strategy.
