Rating
B-tier base, A-tier in dedicated card-destruction builds. Nom & Stompy have 10 Attack, 10 HP, and Counter 10 — a colossal unit whose base counter makes them fire once every 10 turns. Each card destroyed reduces their counter by 1. In a Shademancer sacrifice-heavy build where Chikichi chains, Baker Skull Muffins, and Consume items create multiple card destruction events per fight, Nom & Stompy's counter drops from 10 to 5–6 within the first fight turn — firing their 10-Attack hit in what would normally be an unreachable timeframe.
10 Attack is the highest base Attack among non-boss characters in the game. One Nom & Stompy activation one-shots most non-boss enemies. Reaching that activation is the design challenge: in a fight with 5 card destruction events, Nom & Stompy fire at Counter 5 — competitive with other high-damage companions.
Counter 10 without any destruction support means Nom & Stompy may never fire in short fights. Their floor is extremely low in non-sacrifice builds. The pick is entirely conditional on the run having reliable card destruction volume.
How to Use
Front row — HP 10 makes them one of the tankiest companions in Shademancers. They absorb enemy hits while waiting for their counter to count down through destruction events. Their passive counter reduction combines with fight damage in parallel: enemies attacking Nom & Stompy's HP while sacrifices reduce their counter simultaneously.
Card destruction sources: Chikichi sacrifice chains (each Chikichi sacrificed and Chikani death = 2 card destruction events), Baker Skull Muffins used from hand (each Skull Muffin use = 1 card destruction if Consume applies), Consume items, Needle destroying Junk. In a Shademancer run with Chikichi full chain + 3 Skull Muffins used: that's 5 destruction events = Nom & Stompy fire at Counter 5.
Counter-reduction charms directly lower the threshold. A single -2 Counter charm on Nom & Stompy converts them to Counter 8 — needing only 8 destruction events instead of 10 to fire from the start of a fight.
Advanced Techniques
Chikichi full chain: 4 destruction events in one sequence. Chikichi sacrifices → spawns Chikani → Chikani dies → 4 chain destruction events total in Shademancer mechanics. Each event reduces Nom & Stompy's counter by 1. A full Chikichi chain contributes up to -4 Counter on Nom & Stompy without any items.
Baker Skull Muffin loop. Baker generates Skull Muffins when you play items. Each Skull Muffin used (destroyed on use) is 1 card destruction event. 5 items played across a fight = 5 Skull Muffins generated = 5 card destruction events = -5 on Nom & Stompy's counter. Combining Baker + item-heavy play with Nom & Stompy gives reliable counter acceleration without sacrificing real companions.
Groff parallel scaling. Each sacrifice event that reduces Nom & Stompy's counter also triggers Groff's Reaction (ally sacrificed = Groff fires x2 Frenzy attack). Running Groff + Nom & Stompy means every sacrifice contributes to both Nom & Stompy's activation speed and Groff's damage output simultaneously.
Good Synergy Cards & Charms
- Chikichi — sacrifice chains generate multiple card destruction events per sequence, rapidly reducing Nom & Stompy's counter
- The Baker — Skull Muffin generation from item plays creates card destruction events without spending real companions
- Consume items — each Consume item use is a destruction event; item-heavy runs provide reliable counter fuel
- Counter-reduction charms — directly lower the starting counter; Counter 8 needs 2 fewer destruction events than Counter 10 to fire first turn
- Groff — each sacrifice event triggers both Groff's Reaction attack AND Nom & Stompy's counter reduction simultaneously
