Monch

Basic Info

  • Tribe: Shademancers
  • Attack: 2
  • HP: 6
  • Counter: 4
  • Effect: Before attacking, eat all allies in the row, absorbing their Attack and Health

Rating

B-tier base, S-tier ceiling in purpose-built Monch decks. Before every Monch attack, he consumes every ally in his row, permanently absorbing their Attack and HP into his own stats. An ally with 4 Attack and 8 HP eaten by Monch becomes +4 Attack and +8 HP on Monch — immediately and permanently. The eaten ally is removed from the board, which counts as that ally being defeated (triggering Dregg's buff, Groff's Reaction, etc.).

The strategic ceiling is enormous. In setups where Monch consistently has high-value allies to eat — Egg (8 HP, triggers Dregg spawn), Chikichi Shades, Skull Muffins from Baker — he can reach 50+ HP and 30+ Attack by late Act 2, becoming effectively unkillable and one-shotting bosses. The design challenge: ensuring his row only contains sacrificial companions, not allies you need for other purposes.

How to Use

Column management is the entire game with Monch. His row should contain only allies you intend to sacrifice. Keep your primary attackers and supports in OTHER rows. Monch's eat trigger is automatic before every Counter 4 attack — he cannot be told to stop.

The best Monch fuel sources are Egg (8 HP absorbed, then Dregg spawns — net: +8 HP on Monch and Dregg on board), Skull Muffins from Baker (low stats but repeatable, no real companions lost), and Chikichi's Shade chain (Shades that end up in Monch's row get absorbed when Monch attacks).

Position Dregg in a DIFFERENT row from Monch. If Dregg is in Monch's row, Monch eats him before the first attack. The eaten-ally defeat event still fires Dregg's +2 Attack trigger on other Dregg units elsewhere, but the main Dregg carry is gone.

Advanced Techniques

Egg → Monch row → Monch eats Egg → Dregg spawns. Egg in Monch's row gets eaten before Monch's first attack, giving Monch +8 HP (Egg's base HP). Egg's destruction then spawns Dregg. The net result: Monch has +8 HP permanently, AND Dregg is now on the board — both outcomes from one card.

Baker sustains Monch's fuel without sacrificing real companions. Baker generates Skull Muffins when you play items. Place those Muffins in Monch's row. Each Monch attack absorbs the Muffins' modest Attack and HP, slowly building his stats without losing board presence elsewhere.

Van Jun + Monch's incoming Shade/summon allies. If summoned allies land in Monch's row and get buffed by Van Jun's aura before Monch eats them, Monch absorbs the Van Jun-buffed stats (+2 Attack +2 HP per summon). The Shade that enters Monch's row leaves with higher value.

Good Synergy Cards & Charms

  • Egg — Monch absorbs 8 HP, Dregg spawns simultaneously; highest-efficiency single Monch feed source
  • The Baker — Skull Muffins placed in Monch's row provide sustainable, low-cost stats without depleting companion roster
  • Dregg (separate row) — each Monch eat triggers Dregg's +2 Attack from the ally-defeated effect; parallel scaling
  • Chikichi — Shade chain companions that enter Monch's row get absorbed, transferring Shade stats to Monch
  • HP-up charms on Monch — early investment to survive before his first eat scales his baseline durability
