Groff
Basic Info
- Tribe: Shademancers
- Attack: 5
- HP: 6
- Counter: 0
- Effect: x2 Frenzy. Reaction — triggers when an ally is Sacrificed
Rating
A-tier sacrifice combat payoff. Groff fires a free x2 Frenzy attack (5 Attack × 2 = 10 damage) every time any ally is sacrificed. In a sacrifice-axis deck running Chikichi, Skull Mist Tea, and The Baker, Groff fires repeatedly across each fight without using Counter turns — the sacrifices do the work, and Groff converts each one into immediate board damage. One Chikichi chain sacrifice loop generates 5 Groff triggers, totaling 50 free damage from one source chain.
His 5 Attack base is already strong for a Reaction card. Spice items or Attack charms raise the x2 Frenzy total proportionally: Spice 4 on Groff means 9 × 2 = 18 damage per sacrifice trigger. At 5 sacrifice events per fight with Spice 4, Groff contributes 90 damage from triggered attacks alone.
How to Use
Mid or back row for Groff. His Reaction fires automatically on sacrifice regardless of position, so survival matters more than targeting. HP 6 is moderate — he benefits from Shell or heal support to keep him alive through multi-sacrifice fights where enemies may target him.
The ideal setup: Dregg, Devicro, AND Groff simultaneously benefiting from the same sacrifice chain. One Chikichi chain gives Dregg +10 Attack, Devicro +accumulated Attack, and Groff fires 5 triggered attacks for 50+ total damage. All three payoffs resolve from the same source cards.
Baker provides sustainable Skull Muffin supply for ongoing Groff triggers. Each Skull Muffin sacrifice fires Groff's Reaction. With Baker generating Muffins each time you play an item, Groff's trigger count across a fight can reach 8–10 in Baker-heavy runs.
Advanced Techniques
Groff + Devicro + Dregg triple stack. All three scale from sacrifice. A single Chikichi chain gives Dregg +10 Attack, Devicro +2+4+6+8+10 Attack per Shade, and Groff fires x2 Frenzy × 5 events for 50+ damage.
Spice + Groff maximizes per-sacrifice damage. Apply Spice to Groff before a sacrifice chain. At Spice 4, each x2 Frenzy trigger deals 18 damage instead of 10. A 5-event chain deals 90 damage.
Good Synergy Cards & Charms
- Chikichi — full 5-link chain gives Groff 5 triggered attacks (50 base damage) from one source card
- The Baker — each Skull Muffin sacrifice fires Groff; sustainable trigger income throughout the fight
- Dregg + Devicro — parallel sacrifice payoffs; all three benefit from the same events simultaneously
- Spice items — Spice 4 on Groff turns each sacrifice trigger from 10 to 18 damage
- HP-up charms on Groff — keeps him alive longer to fire more triggers across sacrifice-heavy fights
