Rating
A-tier Shroom escalation tank with near-S-tier ceiling in sustained fights. Fungun starts applying Shroom 2 per activation and gains +1 to that amount permanently every time he's hit. After 3 hits: Shroom 5 per activation. After 6 hits: Shroom 8. With Counter 5 and 10 HP, Fungun sits in the front row, absorbs hits, and his Shroom application grows toward fight-ending values without any item investment. The community notes: "A little investment makes him outrageously strong" — a single HP item extends his damage absorption window meaningfully, as each extra hit he survives = +1 more Shroom per future activation.
Frenzy-based attackers multiply Fungun's Shroom into burst damage. Foxee's x3 Frenzy hits an enemy 3 times — if that enemy has Shroom 5 accumulated, each hit triggers 5 Shroom damage, for 15 Shroom damage in one Foxee activation from accumulated Shroom alone.
How to Use
Front row always. Fungun's 10 HP makes him one of the tankiest Snowdweller companions, and his Shroom growth requires being hit. The longer he survives in the front, the higher his Shroom application climbs. Don't try to protect him from hits — let him absorb them and grow.
Counter 5 is slow, but Shroom's effectiveness is not determined by activation speed. Each Counter 5 activation applies Fungun's accumulated Shroom level to an enemy; between activations, he's absorbing hits and growing that level. By Counter activation 3, he may be applying Shroom 7–9, which Frenzy attackers then convert into massive burst damage.
Wort pairs cleanly with Fungun. Wort applies Shroom 2 (Aimless) per activation at Counter 3. Together, Fungun and Wort flood every enemy with escalating Shroom while Foxee or Tiny Tyko convert those stacks into explosion damage.
Advanced Techniques
Smackback charm on Fungun. Every enemy attack that grows Fungun's Shroom also returns Smackback damage to that attacker. Enemies that attack Fungun to prevent his Shroom growth take Smackback retaliation for doing so. The combination makes Fungun actively punishing to attack.
HP charms on Fungun extend the damage window. Each +1 HP = one more potential hit = one more +1 Shroom growth event = higher Shroom ceiling for the fight. An HP charm investment pays back in increased Shroom output across every future fight in the run.
Counter-reduction after Fungun is fully grown. Counter-reduction charms are most valuable once Fungun reaches Shroom 6+. At that point, faster activations mean more frequent Shroom application at the grown level — dramatically increasing his damage per fight-time.
Good Synergy Cards & Charms
- Foxee — x3 Frenzy multiplies Shroom damage; 3 hits on a Shroomed enemy deals 3× the Shroom value per Foxee activation
- Wort — secondary Aimless Shroom source; Wort + Fungun together flood all enemies with Shroom simultaneously
- Smackback charm — each hit that grows Fungun's Shroom also returns damage to the attacker; enemies are punished for hitting him
- HP-up charms — more HP = more hits absorbed = higher Shroom ceiling; each HP point directly increases fight-long Shroom output
- Counter-reduction charms — most effective after Shroom is grown; speeds up application frequency at high Shroom values
