Rating
A-tier reactive Barrage attacker. Nova attacks all enemies simultaneously (Barrage) and, uniquely, also triggers that Barrage attack automatically whenever she or an ally loses a Block (Shell). Every Block charge broken on any ally triggers Nova's full 3-damage Barrage against all enemies — without spending her counter. In a team with multiple Block sources and Nova present, the enemy side takes wave-wide 3-damage pings every time any Block breaks.
The Block-trigger mechanic separates Nova from other Barrage companions. Jumbo and Bombom have Barrage on their Counter activations only. Nova fires additionally on every Block break, which in fights against enemies that deal repeated small hits (constantly breaking Block charges) can mean 4–6 extra Barrage triggers per fight beyond her Counter activations.
Base 3 Attack with Barrage is decent. In a 3-enemy row, her Counter activation hits for 3+3+3=9 total damage. In boss fights it's just 3. The Block-trigger makes her more reliable in damage-focused builds since it fires regardless of her counter state — she can be at Counter 1 or Counter 4 and still Barrage when Block breaks.
Available to all tribes, Nova shines most in runs where Block is systematically generated: Clunkmaster mechanical shields, Snowdweller Shell items, or any charm loadout that grants Block to companions.
How to Use
Nova's primary counter placement matters less than ensuring steady Block sources across the team. Position her wherever she can survive to fire multiple Barrage activations. Mid or back row gives her the best longevity (5 HP is modest but enough for non-front positioning).
Stack Block on allies and Nova herself. Each Block charge is both protection for the ally and an incoming Barrage trigger when it breaks. A companion with Shell 2 provides two Nova trigger events when their Block depletes. Items that give Block to all allies simultaneously — if those allies all get hit — can generate multiple Nova triggers in rapid succession.
Attack charms on Nova raise every Barrage hit proportionally. At 5 Attack, her Barrage against a 3-enemy row deals 15 total damage per activation (5×3), and 15 damage per Block-triggered Barrage. The damage scales cleanly with Attack investment.
Spice buffs before her Counter fires translate directly to higher Barrage damage. Applying Spice 3 before Nova activates means 6 damage to all enemies on that activation. The Block-triggered shots use her current Attack (after Spice), so Spice mid-fight still amplifies the reactive pings.

- Attack-up charms — directly scales both counter-activated and Block-triggered Barrage damage

- Knuckles — Knuckles also has a reactive trigger (Smackback when hit); Nova + Knuckles together punish enemies for attacking either of them
