Splinter
Basic Info
- Tribe: Shademancers
- Attack: 4
- HP: 4
- Counter: 4
- Effect: On placement, a random enemy of the row the effect copy
Rating
A-tier high-variance effect copier with a strong base stat floor. When Splinter is deployed, he copies the effect of a random enemy in his row — gaining that enemy's passive, keyword, or active ability for the rest of the fight. Against a boss with x2 Frenzy: Splinter gains x2 Frenzy permanently that fight. Against an enemy with Overload, Snow, or Teeth abilities: Splinter inherits those effects. His base stats (4 Attack, 4 HP, Counter 4) are competitive as a raw attacker even without a useful copy — the effect is pure upside.
The ceiling depends entirely on the enemy effects present when Splinter deploys. Strong enemy effects (Frenzy, Shroom application, Overload) copied by Splinter turn him into a second source of that mechanic. Weak enemy effects (minimal stat boosts) leave Splinter as a standard 4/4/4 attacker. A-tier floor, S-tier ceiling.
How to Use
Scout the enemy board before deploying Splinter. Each fight reveals enemy effects — deploy Splinter into a row that contains the most valuable enemy effect to copy. If the boss row has a Frenzy enemy and the wave row has a weak effect, Splinter goes into the boss row to copy Frenzy.
Don't rush Splinter onto the field. His deploy trigger fires once on placement. Holding him in hand until a high-value copy target appears maximizes his return. In a fight where no strong enemy effects are visible, Splinter can simply be played as a 4/4/4 attacker — the copy trigger may still give a minor bonus.
Recall items allow re-deployment: return Splinter to hand, redeploy into a different row to copy a different enemy effect. Or redeploy into the same row to copy a different random enemy in that row (if multiple enemies are present).
Advanced Techniques
Copy Frenzy from Frenzy bosses. When the boss has x2 or x3 Frenzy listed as their effect, Splinter deploying into the boss's row copies Frenzy onto himself. 4 Attack with x2 Frenzy = 8 effective damage per Counter 4 activation for the rest of the fight. This is among the strongest single-deploy events available.
Row stacking. Place your strongest attacker (Dregg, Groff) in the same row as Splinter before deploying. When Splinter copies a powerful effect, both Splinter and the row companion benefit if the copied effect applies to the full row or has area consequences.
Recall + Splinter in Shademancer sacrifice builds. If an ally sacrificed in Splinter's row triggers Groff's Reaction, Splinter copying Groff-relevant enemy effects adds another dimension — Splinter gains the enemy's ability AND contributes to Groff's activation chain.
Good Synergy Cards & Charms
- HP-up charms — HP 4 is fragile; keeping Splinter alive longer lets the copied effect contribute for more fight turns
- Recall items — each Splinter re-deployment is another copy trigger; copy a new effect if the first was weak
- Dregg (same row) — Dregg gains Attack from ally deaths; if Splinter copies a strong effect and survives, Dregg benefits from that ally presence; if Splinter dies, Dregg gains +2 Attack
- Groff (different row) — sacrifice-triggered Groff attacks pair with Splinter deploying and triggering Shademancer-style sequences
