[STS2] Regent Strategy Guide

Regent Overview

Regent is one of the new characters added in Slay the Spire 2. The playstyle centers on generating and spending the character-specific resource "Stars" to fire off powerful effects — a technical character with a lot of moving parts.

  • Signature mechanic: Spend Stars to activate strong card effects (the character relic "Divine Mandate" grants 3 Stars at the start of combat)
  • Strongest tactics: The Star generation-and-consumption cycle, debuff control through Gravity, defense through Particle Barrier
  • Weaknesses: High play difficulty, and a hard drop in power when Star management breaks down

Core Mechanics

Star System

Regent's signature resource. Generate Stars with generation cards and spend them with consumption cards to activate strong effects.

  • Genesis: Once placed, it produces Stars automatically each turn. Setting it up as early as possible is top priority
  • Meteor Shower / Big Bang: Spend Stars for huge damage
  • Particle Barrier: A defensive card that spends Stars to generate Block

Character Relics

  • Divine Mandate: Grants 3 Stars at the start of combat. Upgrades into "Divine Destiny" after the Act 1 boss
  • Divine Destiny: A strong upgraded relic that supplies even more Stars

Recommended Cards

S Tier (top priority picks)

  • Genesis: A Power that generates Stars automatically each turn. Top priority pick in the early game
  • Big Bang: Consumes a huge number of Stars for enormous damage. A boss-fight finisher
  • Meteor Shower: AoE Star damage. Multi-enemy encounters become dramatically easier
  • Particle Barrier: Spends Stars to generate Block. The backbone of the Reflective Defense build

A Tier (strong)

  • Star Child: Star generation plus draw. Excellent early-game resource
  • Gravity: A strong debuff that pushes enemy Strength negative. A safety net for boss fights
  • Reflect: Converts debuffs you apply into benefits for your side. Pairs very well with Gravity
  • Hidden Fortune: Gains gold and extra effects scaling with accumulated Stars

Deck-Building Direction

Star Stacking Build (recommended)

An aggressive build that stockpiles Stars and unloads with big consumption cards.

  1. Early: Prioritize placing Genesis as soon as possible. Lock in your generation base early
  2. Mid: Add consumption cards like Meteor Shower and Big Bang. Keep an eye on the generation/consumption balance
  3. Late: Multiple copies of Genesis cause Star income per turn to explode

Reflective Defense Build

A control build that stacks Block through Particle Barrier and weaponizes enemy debuffs through Reflect.

  1. Concept: Combine Particle Barrier, Gravity, and Reflect for offense-and-defense in one package
  2. Key cards: Particle Barrier, Gravity, Reflect, Know Your Place
  3. Caveat: Stars Burn through fast, so Genesis is especially important

Play Tips by Act

Act 1

  • Place Genesis the moment you draw it
  • Keep generation above consumption as a baseline
  • Use the 3 Stars from Divine Mandate to stabilize the early fights

Act 2

  • In the shop, prioritize Star-amplifying relics like Dolly's Mirror and Game Piece
  • Pushing elite Strength negative with Gravity makes the fight dramatically easier
  • Track your Star accounting carefully so you never overflow

Act 3

  • With the build complete, automatic Star income each turn lets you fire big plays continuously
  • Thin the deck so you reliably draw Genesis and Big Bang
  • Bank enough Stars before a boss fight

Boss Strategy

  • Star Stacking Build: Bank Stars with Genesis each turn and unload with Big Bang or Meteor Shower. Watch out for running dry
  • Reflective Defense Build: Stack Block with Particle Barrier, then deal damage through Gravity and Reflect — a long-haul style
  • Shared: Managing the Star budget is the heart of Regent. Track income and outgoing each turn and act accordingly
