Rating
B-tier base, A-tier ceiling in Shell-focused builds. Chompom enters with Shell 2 and deals damage equal to 1 (base Attack) + current Shell count per activation. With Shell 2, that's 3 damage at Counter 3 — modest, but the Shell stacking potential makes him a sleeper carry. A Kernel in the front row feeding Shell 2 per hit, combined with Shelly replenishing Shell 3 per kill, can push Chompom's effective Attack to 10+ in a sustained fight.
The core constraint: Shell is consumed when Chompom is hit, so front-row placement strips his bonus damage immediately. He must be protected. In runs where Kernel anchors the front and Chompom sits behind, the Shell accumulation becomes passive and consistent.
How to Use
Place Chompom in the back row, behind a Shell-generating front liner. Kernel is the ideal partner — Kernel applies Shell 2 to the ally behind him each time Kernel is hit, which means every enemy attack on Kernel directly increases Chompom's damage. In fights with frequent enemy activations, this passive Shell income makes Chompom's Counter 3 attacks increasingly devastating without any deliberate item usage.
Counter 3 is fast enough that Shell stacks translate into meaningful damage output quickly. At Shell 5, Chompom deals 6 damage per activation — competitive with mid-tier attackers. At Shell 10, each activation hits for 11 damage, which outpaces many A-tier companions.
Shelly as a secondary partner replenishes Shell when enemies die: each kill Shelly secures gives Chompom +3 Shell. In wave fights where Shelly is clearing small enemies, Chompom's Shell stays topped off between Kernel-fed hits.
Advanced Techniques
Fulbert converts Chompom's Shell income into Shroom on enemies. When Chompom receives Shell (from Kernel, Shelly, or items), Fulbert simultaneously applies equivalent Shroom to an enemy. A Kernel hit that grants Chompom Shell 2 also Shrrooms an enemy for 2 — doubling the value of every Shell application in the row.
Shell items on Chompom are direct Attack investments. Nutshell Cake gives Shell directly; Conker gives Shell on hit. These extend his burst window in fights where Kernel isn't present or enemies attack infrequently.
Back-row Chompom survives to maximize Shell accumulation. Even 2–3 hits on Chompom strip significant Shell. Rear positioning is not optional — it's what separates Chompom as a scaling carry from Chompom as a weak 1-Attack unit.
Good Synergy Cards & Charms
- Kernel — front-row Shell provider; every enemy hit on Kernel applies Shell 2 to Chompom behind, generating passive Attack income
- Shelly — applies Shell 3 on kill; keeps Chompom's Shell topped up in wave fights
- Fulbert — each Shell Chompom receives simultaneously Shrrooms an enemy; doubles the value of Shell income
- Shellbo — applies Shell to allies; adds to Chompom's stack directly
- Conker — applies Shell when hit; supplements passive Shell income
- Nutshell Cake — direct Shell item; burst Shell investment for key fights
