Wort

Basic Info

  • Tribe: Snowdwellers
  • Attack: 0
  • HP: 6
  • Counter: 3
  • Effect: x2 Frenzy — Apply 2 Shroom (Aimless)

Rating

S-tier cross-tribe carry. Wort is the centerpiece of every Shroom/poison strategy in Wildfrost. His base Attack is 0, but that's irrelevant — he fires twice per Counter activation (x2 Frenzy) and applies 2 Shroom to a random enemy each hit, for 4 Shroom total per turn. Shroom deals HP damage to the afflicted enemy each turn before reducing by 1, meaning repeated Shroom applications can kill high-HP enemies without any direct damage at all.

The community rates him as "functionally the centerpiece of all poison playstyles, hits very frequently with decent HP and Frenzy, meaning they can be boosted with spice or attack boosts very well." Spice stacks add to his effective Attack, turning his zero-damage hits into direct damage on top of the Shroom. With x2 Frenzy, each Spice stack doubles in effective DPS. Lumin Ring pushes Shroom from 2 to 3 per hit, compounding fast.

He's available to all tribes as a cross-tribe pickup, and his presence defines whether a run can run a poison plan.

How to Use

Wort needs nothing to function — place him anywhere and he applies Shroom automatically every 3 turns. The positioning question is pure survival: 6 HP keeps him alive in mid-row but not front-row against anything heavy.

The upgrade path is straightforward. Collect Spice early to add Attack on top of Shroom. Lumin Ring on Wort boosts his Shroom from 2 per hit to 3, meaning 6 Shroom per activation instead of 4. Frenzy Charm or Blaze Tea pushes the attack count from x2 to x3 or x4, applying proportionally more Shroom and direct damage per turn.

Aimless (random targeting) is a constraint rather than a strength. Wort cannot be directed at the same target consistently. Stack enough Shroom across multiple enemies and the randomness normalizes — spread Shroom kills everything eventually. Against single-enemy boss fights, all hits concentrate on the boss anyway.

Advanced Techniques

Spice + Wort = both damage types simultaneously. Spice adds direct hit damage. With x2 Frenzy and 5 Spice, each activation deals 10 direct + 4 Shroom. Both damage types scale with more stacks.

Lumin Ring is Wort's best charm. It upgrades Shroom from 2→3 per hit (6 total instead of 4 per activation). Over 5 turns, the difference is 10 additional Shroom — enough to kill an additional enemy.

Fizzle + Wort is a strong pairing. Fizzle also applies Shroom with high frequency. Together they saturate the board with Shroom faster than enemies can recover. The two stack independently.

Mini Mika + Wort. Mini Mika's Frenzy accumulation combines with Wort's Shroom output — Mini Mika handles direct damage scaling, Wort handles Shroom coverage. Each covers the other's weakness.

Good Synergy Cards & Charms

  • Lumin Ring — increases Shroom from 2 to 3 per hit; 6 Shroom per activation instead of 4
  • Frenzy Charm / Blaze Tea — x3 or x4 Frenzy multiplies all Shroom output proportionally
  • Spice items — add direct Attack damage on top of Shroom; both scale with Wort's Frenzy multiplier
  • Fizzle — second Shroom applier; the pair covers all enemies in Shroom faster than they can heal
  • Mini Mika — direct damage complement; Wort handles Shroom coverage, Mini Mika handles Attack scaling
