[STS2] Defect Strategy Guide

Defect Overview

Defect is a technical character who fights by manipulating Orbs. You channel four types of Orbs: Lightning, Frost, Dark, and Plasma.

  • Signature mechanic: Orb slots, with each Orb triggering a passive effect every turn
  • Preferred tactics: Block generation from Frost Orbs, automatic damage from Lightning
  • Weakness: Individual card power is modest. Synergy with Orbs is a prerequisite

Orb Basics

Dark Accumulates damage each turn Damage to the lowest-HP enemy
Plasma Gain 1 Energy Gain 1 Energy

Raising Focus strengthens both the passive and the Evoke effect.

Recommended Cards

S Rank (Top Priority Picks)

  • Defragment: Focus +1. The single most important card, raising the power of every Orb
  • Cold Snap: Channels 2 Frost + Block. The backbone of your defense
  • Electrodynamics: Turns Lightning into AoE damage. Dominates against multiple enemies
  • Echo Form: The first card you play each turn is played twice. One of the strongest Powers in every build

A Rank (Strong)

  • Glacier: Channels Frost + draws cards. Lets you cycle the deck while defending
  • Biased Cognition: Focus +4 but -1 each turn. Best for short fights
  • Core Surge: Damage + Artifact 1. Cancels the Biased Cognition drawback
  • Capacitor: Adds Orb slots. The foundation of the Frost build

Deck-Building Direction

Frost Build (Recommended)

An iron-wall build that generates massive Block each turn using Frost Orbs plus Focus.

  1. Early: Secure Frost-channel cards like Glacier and Cold Snap
  2. Mid: Stack Focus with multiple Defragments. Expand slots with Capacitor
  3. Late: Frost Orbs generate 20-30+ Block per turn. Finish with Blizzard

Lightning Build

An aggressive build that wipes enemies out with Lightning Orb auto-damage.

  1. Key cards: Electrodynamics, Storm, Tempest
  2. Focus scaling: Defragment is mandatory. Auto-damage becomes practical at Focus +3 or higher
  3. Finisher: Hammer home the accumulated damage with Thunder Strike

Tips on Play Flow

Act 1

  • Secure 1-2 Orb-channel cards such as Ball Lightning and Cold Snap
  • If you see Defragment, take it as the top priority
  • Remove the starter Strike/Defends early

Act 2

  • This is the phase where you want Orb slot expansion (Capacitor)
  • Electrodynamics gives peace of mind against multi-enemy fights
  • You can aim for the Biased Cognition + Artifact combo

Act 3

  • A completed Frost build is almost invincible. Blizzard secures your damage
  • Dark Orb + Recursion can also produce burst damage
  • With Echo Form every action doubles

Boss Strategy

  • Frost build: Spam Cold Snap, stack Focus, 30+ Block per turn. Slow but safe
  • Lightning build: High Focus stacks auto-damage. Finish with Tempest
  • General: Biased Cognition is poor for long fights. Judge timing based on the boss's HP
