[STS2] Defect Tips & FAQ
FAQ
Q. I don't really get how Orbs work
There are four Orbs: Lightning (damage), Frost (Block), Dark (accumulating damage), and Plasma (Energy). At end of turn the passive effect triggers, and when you Evoke an Orb it fires a stronger effect immediately. The Focus value strengthens both the passive and Evoke effects.
Q. Should I raise Focus or add more Orb slots?
Both matter, but prioritize Focus. Every +1 Focus strengthens every Orb's passive and Evoke effect. Three to four Orb slots is typically plenty.
Q. Is Creative AI strong?
Extremely strong. It adds a random Power to your hand every turn. However, at cost 3 it is heavy, so you need to play it early. Along with Echo Form, it is one of Defect's strongest Powers.
Easy-to-Miss Synergies
- Cold Snap + Focus: Channels 2 Frost plus Block. At high Focus the total Block from a single play explodes
- Dark Orb + accumulation: The more times Dark Orb's passive fires, the faster Evoke damage piles up
- Defragment: A strong Power granting permanent Focus +1. The earlier you pick it, the higher its value
- All for One + 0-cost cards: Returns every 0-cost card to your hand. Combine it with Zap, Dualcast, and similar cards
Advanced Techniques
- Orb placement order: Orbs are Evoked starting from the right end. Put Dark on the right end and Evoke after accumulation
- Pick Defragment early: Permanent Focus +1 is valuable from the earliest act to the last. Grab it as soon as you see it
- Frost defense: At Focus 3 or higher, the Frost Orb passive alone generates enough Block. You can spend card slots on offense instead
- Echo Form pairing: The first card each turn is resolved twice. Combine it with Zap or Dualcast to Channel multiple Orbs per turn
