Evaluation
Fire a ki blast directly forward. Useful for attacking opponents at range. Holding the button steps the move through Lv1 / Lv2 / Lv3 — each charge level increases damage and on-block / on-hit advantage.
How to Use
Lv1
The default Gou Hadoken — comes out fast and works for neutral pokes, footsies and combo enders.
Lv2
Mid-charge version. Plus-two on block makes it a strong pressure / oki tool, and it knocks down on hit.
Lv3
Full-charge version. +5 on block and 1350 damage with a knockdown on hit. The charge time is long, so use it when you can read the opponent.
Hold (OD)
236PP OD-hold version. Gives +5 on block. Spend a meter when you want a guaranteed advantageous situation.
How to Counter
Recommended counters
Gou Hadoken's properties shift between Lv1 / Lv2 / Lv3 depending on the hold. The default answer is just-parry, but over-fixating on parry feeds you into 6KKK→LPLK.
Strength-based responses
- 236LP(Lv1) — even on a successful just-parry there is no guaranteed punish, so go back to neutral
- 236HP(Lv1) — buffer drive rush or a heavy normal into the parry
- Never reversal-jump after blocking the fireball (only forward-jump if you actually get the just-parry)
- Always buffer a heavy normal into your parry input so you cash in when it hits
Caution
Over-fixating on the just-parry leads straight into 6KKK→LPLK. Keep parry as one tool among many — accept that forward-jump and projectile-invincible reads are also valid options.
