Envelop your fists with the Power of Nothingness, enhancing moves such as the Hadoken and Hashogeki. Leaves you wide open, making the timing of its usage critical.
Evaluation
Ryu's signature charge. With 52F total animation it can't be done freely, but the empowerments are sweeping and the round-deciding swing is huge. Denjin H Hashogeki — "+3 on block, launch on hit" — is offense and defense in one button, and corner Denjin SA2 hold reaches SA3-tier damage. Year 3's double-speed Denjin SA1 made confirm Shinku Hadoken much more reliable.
How to Use
When to charge
22P has no hitbox and 52F total — only safe windows allow it.
- After a knockdown (forward throw, 214LK, etc.)
- During the recovery of a long-range Hadoken
- Round start, when the gap is wide
- Before going Burnout, when the corner is yours to manage
No restock
Only one stock. You can't double up. Plan the consume-and-rebuild rhythm.
Signature route: drive-rush 2MK → Denjin H Hashogeki
- Hit: launcher into a heavy combo
- Block: +3 → keep your turn with strike / throw
- The strongest 2MK confirm in Ryu's kit
Corner damage routes
- 2MP → Denjin 214PP → HP → HK → HP → 4HP → 236HK → 623LP → SA3 (~6000 damage)
- Denjin 214PP → SA2 2-stage hold = SA3-tier reward
Saving the stock
Since May 2024, L / M Hadoken and Hashogeki revert to normal versions during Denjin without consuming the stock. You can throw fireballs while saving Denjin for the H / OD payoffs.
Pitfalls
- 52F is "eat one Hadoken / DI" worth of recovery. The window is non-negotiable
- Only one stock. Wasting it or dying before consuming it is a major round-loss
How to Counter
Denjin Charge has 52F of total animation — pure recovery. Either deny the stock or capitalize as soon as it's used.
Recommended counters
Denying the stock
- Don't sit still after a knockdown — Ryu wants you to. Push off wakeup or run a setup that forces him to defend
- Watch for the 22P motion right after a Hadoken's recovery — punish hard
- During 22P, Ryu is completely defenseless. DI, jump-in, SA, drive-rush — go for max reward
Once it's stocked
- Always check the Denjin icon under his HP bar
- Block frames, combo damage, every read shifts. Adjust accordingly
- Number-one threats: 214HP (links from normals) and OD 214PP (+4 on block)
New block-frame numbers
- Denjin 214HP: +3 on block
- Denjin 214PP: +4 on block
- Denjin 236HP: 2-hit fast fireball
→ Mash punishes lose to Denjin H Hashogeki re-pressure. Have a plan: backstep, jump, reversal — don't just sit and block.
Drain the stock and reset
Denjin is one stock, no overlap.
- Play patient until Ryu spends it
- The frame after he consumes Denjin (e.g., after Denjin H Hashogeki), he's "stockless" and weaker
- Make Denjin consumption part of your round plan to cap his damage ceiling
Watch out: Denjin lethal
Denjin combos hit much harder than baseline.
- A corner stray = round
- Drive-rush 2MK → Denjin H Hashogeki on hit takes 60%+
- When low on health, prioritize block over offense while Denjin is up
